When the people of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia in the south of the Republic of Moldova voted for their new governor today, there wasn't a single candidate on the ballot who has pro-European views. All eight candidates represent pro-Russian positions.

For many Gagauz, though, Russia's war against Ukraine has been a wake-up call. The people we spoke to on the streets of Comrat, the regional capital, told us they wanted peace.

at the same time, an MP declared the recent revocation of brodcasting rights of several rather pro-russian tv channels to be only the first step in the fight against dictatorship and disinformation. Irina Vlah, leader of the autonomous and notoriously pro-russian region of #Gagauzia rose to the occasion by declaring that the channels could continue broadcasting in gagauzia and underscoring her opposition to maia sandu's "authoritarian regime"
