My peony (in a raised bed) has gone very sad. The seller has told me it was my fault because it needs to be in the ground not a pot but everywhere I’ve looked says peonies in pots is fine. Anyone know? Otto Froebel if that makes a difference

Does anyone have experience of growing a rambling rose up a tree? I’ve bought one that’s supposedly ok in the shade to try and train up and into my big ash tree, but I’d LOVE to see 📸 of examples!

Some garden updates from the : the daffodils are finally out! I’ve been adding in bird feeding coconuts to make the garden even more wildlife friendly, and then there’s some even more exciting growth from brand new plants - a peony and my lambs ear. How are everyone else’s gardens doing? Any exciting pollinator friendly growth happening?

When I joined Mastodon I used a cross poster from Twitter but I’ve just discovered it stopped working so none of my posts have come here for a month! Here are some photos from the garden to make up for not being here. How are everyone’s gardens doing!?

I have a tree 🌳 related question 🙋🏻‍♀️ @GardensHour@twitter.com. First time growing oak trees from acorn and have four seedlings. Most advanced is maybe a touch droopy with a small brown mark on one leaf. What do people think? Is he happy? 🙏🤞🏻

Evening @GardensHour@twitter.com! This week I’ve mostly been tucked up in bed sick, but the few times I’ve left I’ve been eagle eyed watching the bulbs come up, and today spotted my Heather actually in bloom! Just hope the 🐝 find it

I bought this Parrot Echinacea late last year when there was basically nothing to see - hence the stone ring to avoid digging it up. But there’s a teeny bit of red growth happening! I’m very excited for it to turn into the second photo (hopefully). A great plant for 🐝 and 🦋 . A great one to add to your . Anyone have a favourite echinacea - show me!?

I got over excited last week and shared my resolutions then. But they still stand - doing more to help climate change in the garden; a pumpkin arch (more food generally); hard landscaping and more from seed (already started!)

Hellebore and Jasmine are both great sources of early food for pollinators and well worth including in your gardens. Plus they offer a bit of interest and colour when not much else is around! What does everyone have right now to help ?

My pussy willow is growing tiny buds! I only bought it in the autumn so I’m very excited for the next few months. They are a top source of early nectar for pollinators & a v worthwhile plant to get in the garden if you can

My pussy willow, or Salix caprea, is starting to get tiny little buds. I only bought this little guy in the autumn so I’m very excited to see what happens in the next few months. They are a top source of early nectar for pollinators including the purple emperor butterfly! A very worthwhile plant to get in the garden if you can.

Seeds!! Yesterday four deliveries turned up - two seed swaps with friends, one had flowers from the RHS, and one was a giant haul of (mostly) veg seeds. Anyone else get seeds over Christmas? What did you get? Show us your haul!

There are plants happening in the garden, and tasks already piling up after a couple of weeks out of the garden. Up first, I need to get a trellis up for the Jasmine that’s starting to say hello - that and the hellebore are solid early pollinator food so need to give them the best chance!

It’s a little late for planting bulbs but I took a punt on these, on sale, beauties. Crocuses are a great source of early nectar so was determined to try. Plus - better in the ground than on the shelf, so why not rescue a bag and give it a go!
