There's just something healing about garlic bread. Whether its cheap, store-bought stuff or home-made, garlic bread is food for the soul.
In summary: I made and ate garlic bread today.
One of the things I love about #Garlic, is that with 1 clove, you will get a whole new bulb with lotsof cloves. Unlike onions, where you plant a small onion & just get 1 bigger onion.
Plus, autumn sown garlic sends up shoots mid-late winter, which are always a delight.

Today I planted out the 8 varieties of #garlic I grow. The planters are c. 60cm Ă 20cm. By using the zig zag pattern, I can fit 5 cloves in, whereas only 4 if I plant in a straight row.
By this time next year I'll have proper raised beds to grow the garlic in, but pots for this year. Garlic is a pretty easy crop & a mostly low spoon activity, particularly as my partner added the compost to the pots.

Sorted through my harvested #garlic today, choosing the best ones for growing on next season.
The bulbs were smaller this year, the long dry Spring & Summer really impacted their growth. I tried to regularly water them, but my #MECFS symptoms were bad during that period & I didn't keep up with the task as much as I should. Still, I've got c. 80 bulbs, enough for me to share with a few friends & keep me in garlic for another year!

Yesterday we harvested my garlic crop, and as the weather is so dry (hot!) at the moment, I'm letting it cure in the sun for a few days.
The bulbs are smaller this year; maybe a combination of a drier Spring & me not being well enough to do any watering. Still, they are a better size that most supermarket garlic!
There are 8 varieties of garlic separated out into individual trays, & c. 80 bulbs of garlic all up.

If you have #garlic questions, I can do my best to answer them. Not an expert, but a very keen amateur :)
I have a glut of parsnip to use up and made this soup today and it's delicious. The sweetness of the carrot and parsnip is complimented by the tang of cumin and garlic. The lentils add protein.
Have put the recipe on my blog: https://www.gwenfarsgarden.info/2022/03/carrot-parsnip-and-red-lentil-soup.html

Most of the garlic of the 7 of 8 cultivars I grow have sent up the first shoots. As usual, cultivar 'Martin's Heirloom' is behind the rest, usually by 3-4 weeks. Though it's always ready at the same time of the rest when it comes to harvesting in Summer. đ¤ˇââď¸

We planted the garlic today! Here it is laid out so I can check the spacing for the 8 varieties I grow, before pushing the cloves into the ground.

By the way, if anyone ever has any garlic questions, do ask me. I'm no expert, but I'm a very keen garlic grower and if I don't know the answer, I could probably find it.

@plants I ran out of characters, but to be clear, this is for the Northern hemisphere.
If you are in the Southern hemisphere, now's the time to plant your garlic crop!
Growing #garlic? Up to now the clove has focused on developing roots & sending out leaves. Now it starts splitting into the bulb you want it to become.
It needs regular watering in order to develop into large bulbs. So if it's been dry recently, give your plants a good water to help develop the bulbs. I gave this 80cm square bed 2 full watering cans tonight. And I'll repeat every 4 or so days if there is no rain.

Prior to this latest round of snow, I discovered the tips of my garlic bulbs coming up, for 7 of the 8 cultivars I grow.
For some reason, one, Martin's Heirloom, always come up 3-4 weeks after the rest. They always catch up though, and are usually ready to harvest at the same time.
It's always exciting to see my garlic has come up :garlic: :garlic: :garlic:

Mission #Garlic planting achived! The last 4 cultivars planted: Persian Star, Susan Delafield, Martin's Heirloom and Rosewood. About 80 cloves sown all up.
I'm completely wiped out now, but so happy to have the garlic planted. Woo!

I have now planted Georgia Fire & Music. Four more lots to go after I've had another rest.
It is nice to take a moment between planting cloves to just close my eyes, face the sun and enjoy it's warmth on my face. #SmallGoodThings

@WanderingBeekeeper @whami when I'm batch cooking, I use so much garlic that I throw it into a hand blender gadget and let it mince it in seconds.
And I'm going to try this trick that @deneb shared next time I need to peel a whole bulb https://m.tiktok.com/v/6882122929753066758.html
