Installing #GarudaLinux for its preconfigured #linux #kernel, chiefly to avoid the hassle of setting up #udevrules with #OpenRGB. A nice bonus is the #zenkernel for additional performance, and the easy GUIs for a straightforward OS. #snapper utilizing the powerful #btrfs is a nice feature too. Overall it's a great OS and will keep me around for a while, until I'm inflicted with the inevitable urge to #distrohop again.

@rm4 #GarudaLinux looks lovely, but boy does it eat up resources! At least I tried it (KDE) a year or so ago on a ThinkPad with 4Gb Ram. It brought the system to a crashing halt. I now have too machines that have 8Gb (a lot from me), but would be scared to try it.

However, I use Sweet KDE theme on all 4 of my computers.

@bc Did you had a look at #endevouros, #garudalinux or @manjarolinux as more approachable Arch based distributions?

I think I've found my new distro to call home! :ablobcatbongo: But before I say what it is, I thought it'd be fun to give some quick thoughts on the ones I tried along the way:

- #GarudaLinux : Much neon, very gamer! If you're the target audience, it's brilliant. But a bit too bloated and specific for me.

- #EndeavourOS : Arch with a pre-installed GUI, and that's it. Opposite of Garuda, comes with too little out of the box for me :rofl:

I have a spare T480laying around. I already have a separate machine for #dev work, but was thinking of setting this up as a #retrogaming laptop.

I tried #garudaLinux on it yesterday, but had problems with Wine and Lutris. Any suggestions for low resource desktop distros that I can use as a base for my retro gaming laptop?

Spent most of today getting almost all the rest of my system set up. Morning I got my Steam library squared away with a 2nd library folder on my 8tb ext HDD. Afternoon was spent getting Rift installed and tested, then finding what addons I could for it and LotRO and getting them installed. Spent a couple hours trying to get LotRO to launch on the 32" display, but it just won't. Tried all the "fixes" I could find online and narrrrp. So I'll have to launch windowed and move it. #PC #GarudaLinux

Well it took 2 tries to get #GarudaLinux installed. First try hung at 29%. Dialogue was unresponsive. Rebooted and tried again, zipped through. Rebooted.. into the old Garuda.. wtf.. oh, hell. Forgot this old mobo's BIOS only looks into the first SATA/USB connection for boot record. So I had to swap the old HDD and new SSD. Then I booted into new install. Updated, installed almost all the extras I wanted (PGP key on one was outdated) and rebooted again. SSDs load fast, lol. #ArchBased 1/2

Currently listening to podcasts as I wait for the fresh install of Garuda onto a brand new PNY 500g SSD to complete. It's amazing how cheap "old" SATA drives are now, lol. $22 USD for this one.

I couldn't figure out what was going on with the updates on the OG Garuda install. Best I got was one error about the compression being corrupted. It's entirely possible that's due to old failing HDDs, hence the new SSD. Guess we'll see, heh. #GarudaLinux #ArchBased #FreshInstallWhoDis?

I installed Linux Mint on one computer at work yesterday!

I almost forgot how easy and straightforward it is.

I mean I usually dual boot with at least one other distro and on my main PC I actually dual boot with Garuda and Mint on one partition using btrfs subvolumines (that was fun to set up with mostly outdated/not working guides xD) :blobRofl:

So... yesterday my OS suddenly froze. It is fine itself, that sometimes happens.

My issue is that after reset there weren't any visible boot options in motheboard's boot menu.

After cutting off power for a bit there suddenly was an option for ubuntu. Garuda wasn't there but I always have Garuda's liveUSB with Boot Repair ready xD

It took like 5 minutes to make it work normally again.

I really hope it was just OS's issue, not failing motherboard/disk 🤞

I am a graphic & web designer in SoCal. I hail from the #GooglePlus system (where I was a Google+ Creator and the "Star Wars guy" there...) . I've been a social media nomad since after the Empire destroyed it back in 2018. RIP :(

I’m now trying out #GarudaLinux’s #Sway version. I think I’ll try a few different distros that have a Sway variant and then try putting together a setup with what I like from each. For example, I really like the visual aesthetic of the terminal in #EndevourOS. There are also some pretty cool things in some of the #i3-based variants.

My #GarudaLinux install decided to stop booting into #KDE at all, couldn't even manually start it, so I tried reinstalling Garuda. That didn't help once I got everything updated. Turns out I had to enable sddm again, even though it shouldn't have been disabled in the first place.

But this did something I forgot to think about. I've been using the Bismuth script to make Plasma a tiling window manager. It's actually worked better since the 5.27 update, but the developer of it deprecated the project due to the script breaking in the Plasma 5.27 beta.

This means I've been forced to try to figure out Plasma's built in tiling features.

tl;dr: they suck. I'll keep trying to find a good tiling script that utilizes the new pre-built framework, but it's looking like I might need to switch to a dedicated tiling window manager again. I really don't want to though, Plasma does everything I want it to and I haven't encountered a tiling window manager that gives me the same experience.

Tout allait bien et au bout de deux jours l'affichage a buggé et ça a modifié le bios. Impossible de redémarrer. Écran noir. Je suis joie. #linux
