Interesting - Aurora on the Iberian mechanism.

The mechanism caps wholesale market prices for fossil power plants, and recovers cost of cap on electricity consumers.

It does suppress electricity prices for ES and PT consumers, compared to DE/FR. But fossil gas use has increased significantly, adding to international LNG demand.

🇪🇺 Energy council agreed on gas market price cap (eventually landed on trigger of €180/MWh). The cap is temporary & conditional (can’t jeopardize security of supply).

The deal triggers previous agreed group purchase of gas & faster permitting of renewables. These are the structural measures tackling actual causes of crisis.

If successful they will help prevent prices from peaking to levels that trigger price cap.
