#genealogical tidbit of the week: Ben Franklin's nephew's great-great-great granddaughter married my great-great-great-grandfather's nephew once removed.
It's a 16 degree relationship, but still... I'll take it!
My #Genealogical research has been a bust this week. Two dead ends on Tuesday, only a partially successful #translation of a 19th century #polish #birth record yesterday. Here’s hoping I have better luck tonight! #genealogy #ancestry

Today's #genealogical tidbit:
Julia Child's great(x4)grandmother's neice married Craig's great(x5)grandfather's nephew.
When Beate #Hammes discovered during her #genealogical research that one of her family members had fought under #Napoleon in the Iberian War (1807 to 1814), this discovery confirmed to her that it is worthwhile to look at what her #ancestors did. It was her great-great-great grandfather's brother who went to war under Napoleon. While researching, she came across a missing person report. There is no death certificate, but it is documented that the young man did not return.

How did the world, different countries and cities or a special region look like many years ago? The #Map Archive tries to answer this question with the help of old world maps, some historical world atlases as well as thousands of #topographic maps, hundreds of street maps, special maps and city maps, especially from Germany, Central Europe and the world, from 1730 on. Ideal for #genealogical research.

The #Dansk #Centralbibliotek for #Sydslesvig in #Flensburg is more than a collection of books. Because the understanding of the library is different and more diverse than in Germany. Private individuals can conduct #genealogical research in a digital archive with access to around 100,000 church registers. A whole team of historians is employed at the library, dealing with the history and current issues of the minority.

Hollywood star Edward #Norton (53, "Fight Club," "Glass Onion") is said to be related to #Pocahontas. This finding was presented to Norton during an edition of "Finding Your Roots." For the TV show, a team of experts does #genealogical research on celebrities. "There is a well-documented direct link," said host Henry Louis Gates Jr. It leads to the 1614 wedding certificate between John #Rolfe and Pocahontas.

@Tony_Meredith Just stumbled across this article by Ronald Dunning on a Burgh-Darcy marriage, back in 1329: https://janeausteninvermont.blog/2013/03/13/what-jane-knew-a-1329-darcy-de-bourgh-marriage-in-jane-austens-family-tree/
Elizabeth #LadyofClare probably attended the first wedding of her husband's sister Joan de #Burgh at #Greencastle in 1312, but left Ireland in 1316 so would not have been at the second.
I think the #PrideAndPrejudice #CharacterNames allude to #UKpolitics in #JaneAusten's day, but a lot of #genealogical info was available to her: more at https://historians.social/@kawulf/109627062228137872

Nearly 65 years after the discovery of a child's body in #Philadelphia, there is movement in the case: investigators have succeeded in clarifying the boy's identity with the help of #DNA tests. Following the emergence of new investigative possibilities, the boy's body was exhumed again in 2019. Thanks to #genetic and #genealogical research, police say the mother and father have been identified - but their identities have not been released.

In the course of his #genealogical research, Simon #Persenico came across the story of his great-great-grandfather - and thus the history of the #Redolfi family. Now he has published the book "Agostino, the Bergeller". The book not only tells of the fate of an individual, it sheds light on a society, the relationship between generations, the role of women, the effects of social upheavals.

In #genealogical research, one must proceed step by step and not skip anything. Genealogical research begins at home, with the review of documents. Only then should research on birth, marriage and death records begin.
For other weavers it is participation in a family or cultural tradition, and I can't make that kind of narrow or broad #genealogical claim. No weavers birthed me. But I'm a #Caribbean person, and we know that family is made through care and intention as much as through law or biology -- so I suppose I am, through care and intention, being connected to a broader tradition of #handweaving and #textile work.

Hi, just arrived from mstdn. I’m a mature #PhD student interested in late #19thCentury popular #Literature and culture. I’m writing a book (due 2024) as well as a thesis, and am an editorial assistant for Victoriographies. In case this isn’t #Victorian enough, I’m restoring a house that was built in 1896. I love walking my dogs, #genealogical research, and trying to solve cryptic crosswords. Am looking to follow #Victodons and #histodons of the #C19th that have also flown the nest recently!

#Genealogical research is not a sprint, but an endurance race - if taken seriously, it is often very time-consuming.
📍my #parents handled themselves for a few hrs while i grocery shopped. both were still alive, neither were on the floor, & they’d teamed up to surprise wash dishes, B4 i returned
📍i’ve become proficient at blending chickpeas into sauces, cauliflower into mashed potatoes, & veg into “meatloaf”, such that my mom & dad are eating more fiber now than they’ve ever eaten in their lives. #eldercare
📍during an intense #genealogical search, i had a major #family branch breakthrough
