@auguryignored I'd love to run a #Genesys fantasy game, but almost no one knows of it and most people bounce hard off the custom dice.

So probably going to try to run a fantasy campaign based on #CypherSystem. It seems to have a much more active user base, with at least some focus on RP.

Oh, and actually *running* a #Genesys game appears to be fiddly/tedious because of minion groups.

The only online system that helps with this is RPGSessions, but it specifically has no mapping component.

So you'd need to run that (already a resource hog) *and* Roll20 or Foundry? No thanks!

#Genesys RPG isn't in quite as bad shape, but close.

Publisher has changed and everything's been on hold.

System is obscure and complex, so hard for newbies to learn and has "weird dice", and the main Discord has little traffic and almost no new games.

I actually love the dice, but not so much that I'm willing to make starting a new campaign 1000% harder because people don't want to play the system.

I've scorch drived my way through the #Genesys #ttrpg space opera setting book: Twilight Imperium - Embers of the Imperium from @edge_english. I think it is an outstanding sourcebook and give some thoughts here: https://farhavens.blogspot.com/2023/08/roleplaying-in-ashes-of-empire.html

Day Twenty-Four: COMPLEX / SIMPLE RPG That I Play

#DnD5e is pretty complex, especially compared to its humble D&D B/X beginnings. It has a steeper learning curve, but the payoff is worth it.

#Genesys can seem complex, but once you get the dice pools and results down it actually runs pretty smooth.

I have given up running anything more complex: GURPS, HERO System, etc. I don't have the time as a GM to prep that stuff.

I was thinking of playing the solo adventure that comes with #Dragonbane (side note: ridiculously impressed with the system) but when I reached for dice at my side-table I discovered that i _only_ have narrative dice in the living room.

Day Nine: Favorite DICE

Chessex Speckled Mercury Polyhedral (and d10s). I have had these forever. I have used them for so many games. The D10s are great for both #VampireTheMasquerade and #LegendOfTheFiveRings Scorpion Clan. I have several other dice sets, but this one is my go-to.

Runner-ups include my #Genesys dice (love that system) and a set of transparent green D6s (which roll a frightening large number of 6s).

I will give them credit. I did introduce them to #Genesys via Android: Shadow of the Beanstalk and #Alien RPG. They enjoyed them. But the Genesys funky dice are hard for them to grok (I get it). And they love fantasy first.
