A #Geograph contributor documented the mishandling of Covid 19 in real time and 2020 and the elevated casualty numbers. Bullying from The Party (internally) saw this removed and lost. The contributor walked. This was justified by "impartiality".

Yesterday's #POTD #PictureOfTheDay from Geograph was erronously listed as the island of Barra. It is actually Vatersay/Bhatarsaigh
Note that the Ordnance Survey, whose mapping is used, uses the Scottish Gaelic names for locations in preference to English

I like the name.
Boundary stones or markers are quite common remnants of the world before accurate mapping. This one also marks the boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire, an important distinction.

The site of the Ashington Colliery pit head. Located using the grid reference of the winding gear which was used as triangulation point by the Ordnance Survey. The picture shows a path passing a conifer plantation in bright sunshine. No evidence of the heritage of the site is visible.

@bampot Sometimes the local "advice" is BS. Funny how often a good route is described as unusable by those who are not used to cycling off road. Also I often have a valid reason for travelling a blind route and expect to turn back. #geograph Always worth listening though, another bit of information, but nothing beats going out and looking for yourself. Beats sticking to the sheep tracks or "sat nav"
That's another fine mess I got myself into.
