Monday’s #ImageOfTheDay: the tower & spire of #SalisburyCathedral. Today the Church remembers the priest-poet #GeorgeHerbert (1593-1633), rector of nearby Bemerton. He would often walk to Evensong in the Cathedral & linger afterwards to make music with the musicians there.

读赞美诗最大的感受就是,爱情诗所有的意向都是旧的,也是褪了一层颜色的。比如“broken heart”。I love you with a broken heart.
https://soundcloud.com/hutchingsmusic/come-my-way-my-truth-my-life New recording up! This is my SATB setting of a short poem by #GeorgeHerbert. It was a finalist in the Hereford #Cathedral #Composition Competition. Premiered Dec 2022 by the Aurora Consort in Suffolk.
See Soundcloud commentary (and a link to the #score there) for some music geek bits about doing the same thing in different musical modes at the start of each verse. If your #choir might enjoy it, get in touch! #NewMusic #ClassicalMusic#Choral #ChoralMusic #Singing

Jordan (I)
Who says that fictions only and false hair
Become a verse? Is there in truth no beauty?
Is all good structure in a winding stair?
May no lines pass, except they do their duty
Not to a true, but painted chair?
Is it no verse, except enchanted groves
And sudden arbours shadow coarse-spun lines?
Must purling streams refresh a lover’s loves?
Must all be veil’d, while he that reads, divines,
Catching the sense at two removes?
(to be continued)
Roarning!
The poem for today is "The Pulley" by George Herbert.
