For 3/4 of this novel, I willingly followed the author through this tale, enjoying the detail of her portrait of London's Highgate Cemetery and two of her supporting characters, a man with severe OCD and agoraphobia whose condition fractures his marriage and his wife, who does not leave him so much as flee for her own health. 1/3

Found a new (to me) scary/ #GhostStories #podcast yesterday and I've been super enjoying it. It's called True Scary Stories with Edi and Nick.

It was the middle of the night. I was asleep but I was roused when I heard footsteps in my bedroom.

I struggled to open my eyes - my eyelids felt so heavy. No one there.

Then I heard static from the toy radio outside my bedroom.

It was still buzzing when I came out to remove its batteries.

Everyone else in the household was still asleep.

He didn’t know her name; she'd come up to him at the dance, said her ride ditched her. She asked to be taken home. He thought he’d make the drive worth his while—be romantic, park at the old ruins for a bit under the full moon. She shivered as they rolled to a stop.
“You're not scared, are you?” he asked, his hand on her knee. Her skin was cold.
“No. I died just over there. Thanks for taking me home,” she said, and vanished.

I also keep thinking about a six-week course on ghosts. And we'd get into real ghost stories as well as the more literary ghost-as-longing-or-memory type of ghost and also things like ghost imagery and ghosting an image. But I worry that the same people who would love one half of it would hate the other half and vice versa.
