Will be recording my next YouTube vid this weekend. It's all about using #Git in #JetBrainsRider. Will cover a ton of stuff! Definitely a video I'd have loved to have seen when I started using Git in Rider! Subscribe and click the bell to be notified 😊🔔 https://www.youtube.com/@danclarkeuk
So I think that the visitor WiFi at #WarHammerWorld blocks SSH connections which means I have to tether to my phone to use #hg / #mercurial (or #git)

Today I've seen a cool game to learn #git #OhMyGit
It's really cool! https://ohmygit.org/
Although, to play it, I must get done a couple of things:
- Find a #package in #AUR, but it was broken https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/oh-my-git-git#comment-925926
- Find a lightweight make dependency, and find that it has broken relations https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/godot3-bin, so fix them
- Then, create another build dependency package https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/godot3-export-templates to improve building
- Finally, adopt and fix the #game package
Gaming on linux is so #FUN!

I'm happy to share that I have been promoted to Senior DevOps Engineer position in the KodeKloud Engineer program!

OFC I've also added these to the #OS1337 #git:

@thatguyoverthere @BrodieOnLinux Let's just say that if #Github wants to mandate #2FA they need to make it even more accessible than #git is.
If I can't fit it on an #OS1337 boot floppy and keep it fully airgapped on paper without knowing time and date, it's shit.
If banks accept #iTAN to do million-euro transactions than Github can so too...

Anyone having an issue pushing to #GitHub? My CLI seems to hang, and I don't know why?

@SwiftOnSecurity #programming is #creative and #intellectual labour.
Measuring a programmer's efficiency or value with easy #metrics like #LinesOfCode (#IBM) or #Commits (#Huawei) doesn't work.
In fact the latter ones did that #LyingWithNumbers for #KPI so hard on the @linux / #Linux #Kernel that they were close to getting #banned from the #LKML and #git.
Instead they got called out that their "code cleanup" commits are not appreciated as code #readability is being a priority in #Linux!

any folks using #Godot have any tips for a newbie using #git for their projects? I'm using Godot 3 at the moment as I build up my GDScript skills and want to start getting familiar with integrating with Git from the start. Also, is there any appreciable difference between using Godot 3 and 4 with Git?

@tess Darcs has a great UX compared to Git. I really struggled to learn Git after starting with that.
#Darcs can work for personal projects or small teams, but lacks a “GitHub”.
Linus considered it for the Linux kernel, but it doesn’t perform well enough on huge trees.
I used to be a contributor to Darcs I but now use Git exclusively because there’s no getting away from git. Once I mastered #Git it was simpler to just use one tool.
I've been using #Git for a while, and I have definitely learned a few things from reading this.
Does anyone know of a good step-by-step guide to exactly what happens during a #git checkout?
Especially what happens when the branch is only listed in the output of git show-ref under refs/remotes/origin/
I'm asking because I got bit recently by trying to do a Python pygit2 fetch and checkout, and ended up in HEAD detached state. I couldn't spend more time debugging it so I had to fall back to GitPython calling git directly.
#Git commits are commonly referenced by the 7 least significant hex digits of their full 40-digit SHA1 hash.
(40 - 7) ^ 16 =~ 1.98×10²⁴
That's an awful lot of dups being taken pretty casually... isn't it?
Last week I was able to complete my 23rd certification. You can call me a Certified Cloud Technician now: https://www.credly.com/badges/a9f21792-89dd-4e55-9832-747a36a2c404
In the exam, you must perform exercises around #linux, VMs, #containers, #git, CI/CD pipelines, and orchestration tools like #kubernetes.

@miklo @aral Please feel free to controbute to the project but stop wasting my personal time.
Needless to say that my projects only create cost on Microsoft's end and no profit whatsoever as I never even paid a single cent to them.
If they ever go full asshole onto me I'd just move the project when the need exists.
Meanwhile it's irrelevant for a #git where it's hosted.
I just have neither the time nor budget nor spoons to setup a #GitLab or #Gitea at this point...
