The amount of effort to come up with a #Githubcopilot prompt that generates a functioning 1st prototype was substantially higher in #python than #perl for *this specific example*.
Is this a general feature?
I have maintained (and indeed this is the reason I came back to #perl) that it is a much better language for high level reasoning when coding, with a much better yield-to-character-typing ratio. Is this the reason #GenerativeAI was able to deliver with less effort? More exploration to do!!

I've been using GitHub Copilot Chat for about half a month now. I've found that Copilot Chat has more context about what I'm actually working on than ChatGPT (GPT-4), so it answers more intelligently, and the suggested code often shows the results of applying it to the code I'm actually working on (not just when I select the code and ask, but also when I ask in the chat window in the sidebar). There are quite a few times when I can just copy and paste the code it suggests, but there are many times when I have to modify it to some extent. Sometimes I'm better off writing my own, but I still find that the solutions often give me good hints for my own code.

Note that I've only used it to code in Haskell, and it may behave quite differently in other languages.

It's still in beta, so you need an invite to use it, and it only works with the Visual Studio Code Insiders version (not Vim or other JetBrains IDEs at this time).

Die Antworten zur „Faszination“ sind mir zu weich / verklärend. Es kann nicht jeder plötzlich Software schreiben, weil „niemand mehr Programmieren“ können muss, und „kluge Prompts“ reichen. #Microsoft klaut im #GithubCoPilot schlichtweg vorhandenen Code, der dann durch LLM gejagt wird, HOFFENTLICH tut, was es soll und hoffentlich nicht noch 17 andere, ungewollte Dinge. Niemand sollte sowas einsetzen, ohne ALLES zu prüfen. Was wieder Leute braucht, die Programmieren können.
