@miklo @aral Please feel free to controbute to the project but stop wasting my personal time.
Needless to say that my projects only create cost on Microsoft's end and no profit whatsoever as I never even paid a single cent to them.
If they ever go full asshole onto me I'd just move the project when the need exists.
Meanwhile it's irrelevant for a #git where it's hosted.
I just have neither the time nor budget nor spoons to setup a #GitLab or #Gitea at this point...
@poofdyke I'm not shure if this is a good idea, as documentation should be accessible in a static way even if it's being worked on dynamically in the background.
There is a reason tools like #git are being used.
There are reasons to use issue trackers and entire suites like #GitLab and #gitea for that.
OFC you can do #bots that pust changes like @pkgsrcchanges and @linux do into the :activitypub: :fediverse: ...
Also one could allow #BugReporting and #IssueTracking to be accessible via it too.
#issuetracking #bugreporting #bots #Gitea #GitLab #Git
@EeveeEuphoria I hope someone cloned the entire repo...
Cuz Nintendo deserves that shit to get streisanded against them...
Also: What prevents people from setting up a #Gitlab or #Gitea as #OnionService?
github is dogshit nowadays, many alternatives like #Codeberg or the self host option of #Gitea are much better and much less bloated or full of these shady backdoors from big companies, but unfortunately many devs are on github so if you want to have your project to have a slight chance to have some success it has to be on github
until this network effect ends and people finally switch away from it, stuff like this is still gonna happen :/
@esther @mcc that's because git is a versioning system and follows unix-esque KISS principle.
It doesn't have any knowledge of what a file extension is.
Usually some [partly commercialized] version systems & management platforms like #GitLab and #gitea should have some options to do so - similar to branch protection...
Which one is programmers' favorite drink?
Java coffee or Gitea? 🤔
#java #gitea #programmingjoke #Programming #Coding #fosserytech

@ #Linux & #Opensource people.
> Is it OK to use #emoji in git commit messages and or Pull-/Merge-Requests?
#Gitea #GitLab #GitHub #Git #emoji #OpenSource #Linux
@cyberfeed was expectable...
I guess I've to move my projects onto a #SelfHosted #Gitea instance...
@ljwrites regardless of the fact that scraping for machine learning is not violating said licenses and that there's only a very finite way to handle a certain problem efficiently in any given programming language aside [ https://felixreda.eu/2021/07/github-copilot-is-not-infringing-your-copyright/ ] I'd recommend #SelfHosting #GitLab or #Gitea depending on what features you need.
Why do all source-code-hosting platforms (forges) display the file list above the contents of README.md?
Is there a good reason for this?
It would make much more sense to have project description / presentation first, and file list below that.
At this point, most README.md files are small websites. Authors want people to see them.
Why are they being hidden below a list of some directories and files?
Most importantly: What can we do to make this happen?
