In the United States, a fee for fugitive #methane, plans for next-generation performance standards, and a “super-emitter response program” inviting #leak reports from credible third parties.

Several other nations have also advanced new methane policies but many leading oil and gas producers have sidestepped the #GlobalMethanePledge and failed to develop credible mitigation policies.

A quick take on what it says (in 🧵 form)

Obvs the UK is going to big itself up - methane emissions have fallen by 2/3 since 1990, with huge cuts in landfill emissions as the leading cause. HOWEVER, progress stalled after 2013 in both landfill and oil and gas, and farm methane has barely fallen.

But that's the past. What about the future?
