We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications from presenters for Lifting the Lid International Festival of Death & Dying.

For 2023 we are streamlining the process so that there are no concurrent sessions and will be hosting events on Zoom. We will be using a committee to vet applications and therefore only a limited number of applications will be accepted. The festival is growing and this is a necessary step for us to ensure a full and varied schedule of events, and so that each presenter has the full attention of the audience.

Who says international research groups aren't glamorous??! We're here and deathy from Australia (me, in pink 🦘), Canada, the UK and USA - and the End of Life Doula Association of Canada & Douglas College have been invaluable in making this all happen.

We're here in New Westminster BC Canada for the International End of Life Doula Research Group (IEOLDRG) symposium and sea-map planning session for the next year or two. We were joined on Zoom by people from several countries who are eager to help shape and inform research directions. Such a rich week we are having - thank you everyone!

Today I am incredibly grateful for strong women who not only lead their communities, but are generous and gracious in sharing experiences, insights, humour and stories.

I learn so much when I embrace community, rather than thinking exclusion and 'my old ideas or nothing!' are the only way to live and think. New perspectives help me be a better teacher, mentor, community member and person.

Carly Findlay OAM, disability and facial equality activist is someone I deeply respect, and I learn a lot from her books, talks and interviews. This week I watched Carly in conversation with Imani Barbarin, an African-American artist and disability rights activist. The lively and stimulating conversation includes activism, art and being loud, proud disabled women of colour. This conversation is captioned, and has visual descriptions included.

Congratulations to New York for legally recognising the benefits of Natural Organic Reduction (NOR). Informally known as human composting, this is a fast, effective and environmentally responsible option for body disposal.

Pioneer and creator of human composting, #KatrinaSpade of Recompose, has spent years refining NOR, which is a practical and sustainable after-death option for long-term issues surrounding space and energy consumption for both burial and flame cremation, and is lower-impact than Resomation (alkaline hydrolysis).

I personally cannot wait to see this option here in Australia, and around the world.
