Today in 1967, Governor General Georges Vanier dies while in office.
The 1st Quebecer to serve as Governor General, he was also a First World War veterans, losing his leg in battle.
He had been Governor General since 1959.

He will die on Feb. 11.
He is the first Governor General to die in office.
