Good news for some areas, like East TX, OR, UT, and western NE, which should all expect improving conditions and even drought removal. It's not such a happy outlook for the Southern Plains and Florida, nor for the stretch from NC to the Mid-Atlantic that has been drying out these last few weeks.

In the short-term #drought blends, extreme dryness expanded in isolated pockets across the Southeast, from South Texas to the Mid-Atlantic. Most of the West and Midwest are still unusually wet. Over the long term, though, the #GreatPlains and #Northwest remain bone dry. Dry conditions have also developed in eastern #NorthCarolina in the short and long term.

Despite recent improvements, most of the Great Plains remains intensely dry. Over a third of #Kansas (36.3%) is in exceptional #drought. The extent of all categories of drought is higher in #Nebraska (98.6%) than in any other state. And the Dakotas are the only states left with 100% coverage of abnormal dryness or drought.

Itās showing drought improvement, even removal, across most of the #West and Northern Plains, as well as #Michigan. Drought development and persistence, though, is still expected across the Southern Plains, #Texas, and #Florida. #PuertoRico will also likely dry out.

It's still very dry across the #GreatPlains, especially around #Kansas, with some other pockets of degradation this week, including in #Colorado and #Oregon. But otherwise, it was a week of big #drought improvement, from #NorthCarolina across the #West. Overall, the extent of drought across the U.S. and Puerto Rico dropped slightly yet again to 34.99%. The population affected also dropped to 74.2 million people.
