My runner beans have been really enjoying the rain (or some of them have anyway, the ones by the wall are doing okay, but have grown less dramatically). They've outgrown their canes by quite a lot, and I'm trying to think what I can do about it.
At least they're happy with the weather!
Harvest mid-week at the community garden plot!
First zucchini of the season, last of the mint, some onions and lots of new potatoes (and a mini-artchoke hiding). The potatoes could have waited a bit, but we went ahead and harvested one plant as it gives so much joy to the 8yo.
The tray had "lots of tomatoes" according to the toddler (he had been calling "tomatoe" anything that was round). And the swetest thing is that the next morning he brought his "veggies rock" board book and showed me repeatedly "tomatoes" and "potatoes" and now he learned a new world :blobcataww:

Sowed 48 runner bean seeds. And I have 35 viable plants with good strong stems and big leaves. Pretty happy with that.
Unfortunately, I only have room for 24 right now. So I better go down and buy some containers to transplant them into.
If anyone really likes runner beans, feel free to come around for dinner later in the summer.
Spent a tonne of money at the garden centre. Got:
Sweet peas (to grow beside my beans#
Oregano (because my planting failed for some reason, too much water or too little water or too warm or too cold whatever)
Mint (because I forgot to grow any)
Rosemary (because mine died)
A Japanese fern for the very shaded front of the house (which needs more decoration)
Some assorted begonias (just because)
Some gardening supplies odds and ends
Now waiting for a much delayed bus to take my home because I am not walking with all this on a hot day.
Pictures at some point.
I have gardened.
Tomatoes and strawberry spinach repotted, basil and spring onions sown. Bit of general maintenance. I was tired before I started, owing to the lack of sleep, and now I'm especially tired.
I've done a lot of gardening, and am exhausted. But at least I have things done: sowed rocket, lettuce and nigella, repotted tomatoes and strawberry sticks (or strawberry spinach if you'd rather, chenopodium capitatum), plus some general weeding.
I hope things grow.
I have sowed two types of nasturtiums, a low bushy one and a climbing one, as well as kale and the first of the radishes. Plus quite a lot of general garden maintenance. And now I'm knackered.
I have a lot of interests.

Would any gardeners out there mind if I ask for a couple of bits of advice?
I'm growing lobelia from seed, never tried this before. They're sown indoors. The seed pack, under the header 'growing on' says to move them somewhere light but sheltered from direct sunlight. Would a north-facing window be the kind of spot that they mean? I have a big unshaded window facing due north.
And when should I look to do that? Gardening jargon always confuses me. This is how they are right now - should I wait until they're a bit bigger?
Many thanks.
#today I sowed some more seeds. Korean mint and my first chillies of the year, apparently called Zimbabwe Black Chillies. They'll be growing on a south-facing windowsill for a while.

My first seedling of the new year!
May you have a productive and healthy life, little tomato guy.

RT @MartinsWorld420: @lukeming I was lucky enough to get 1 from a friend recently for β¬240 It was some pretty decent haze. I was also offered Peanut Butter Breath imported from the US for β¬400. If I grow it myself even with electricity prices gone up it would be about β¬10/Oz #GrowYourOwn

You can also use @nextcloud to set up your own private messaging service:
https://growyourown.services/review-of-talk-app-for-nextcloud
The service has its own dedicated mobile app for Android and iOS too.
Major downside is it doesn't have any kind of federation (yet), so you can only talk to other people on your server.
If this sounds like something you'd want (for example an internal chat system for your friends, family or organisation), it might be worth looking at this.

In case you missed it, you can create your own personal music and podcast streaming service through @nextcloud as detailed in this article:
https://growyourown.services/review-of-music-app-for-nextcloud
It works with files on your server and podcast RSS feeds, with good mobile app support.
There are some limitations which I've gone through in the article, but overall growing your own alternative to Spotify is really fun! π§ π±

I've done a "Beginner's Guide to Nextcloud", which goes through the basics of what @nextcloud is and how to make your own:
https://growyourown.services/beginners-guide-to-nextcloud
It's written from the perspective of a non-technical person who just wants to make their own services and doesn't want to use command lines or FTP.
Feel free to share with anyone curious about Nextcloud, and feedback is always welcome of course!
