Amberol is Fab No-Frills Audio Player for GNOME Desktops
Looking for a simple, focused, no-frills music player that fits in beautifully on the modern GNOME desktop? Check out Amberol. “Amberol aspires to be as small, unintrusive, and simple as possible. It does not manage your music collection; it does not let you manage playlists, smart or otherwise; it does not let you edit the metadata for your songs; it does not show you lyrics for your songs, or the Wikipedia page for your bands,” states Amberol’s Gitlab page. That’s to say all this audio player does is play music and …Well, that’s pretty much it! You do get a :sys_more_orange:

‘Rnote’ is an Impressive Freehand Note Taking App Built in Rust & GTK4
Rnote is a seriously impressive freehand note taking app written in Rust and GTK4. I came across it on Flathub this week and, within seconds of installing it, I knew I had to give it a bit of a spotlight. If you’ve got a laptop with a stylus or touch-enabled screen and you use GNOME Shell you have to try it out. Rnote is billed by its developer as a “simple note taking application written in Rust and GTK4”. I spent about 20 minutes playing around with it (albeit with a mouse as primary input) and it’s really quite polished :sys_more_orange:

Ubuntu 22.04 Aims to Ship GNOME 42, But Few GTK4 Apps
GNOME 42 could still feature in Ubuntu 22.04 when it arrives this April — but don’t expect to see too many GTK4 apps with it. Ubuntu developers say they ‘aim’ to include the bulk of GNOME 42 release in Ubuntu 22.04 but are currently tasked with updating the GNOME Shell stack to the latest GNOME 41 released. GNOME 42 is in active development itself ahead of a stable release in March. The first alpha is expected to drop this month and will feature a fair number of apps ported to and/or taking advantage of GTK4 and libadwaita. But Ubuntu isn’t :sys_more_orange:

Libadwaita 1.0 Arrives to Kickstart a New Era of GTK App Development
Libadwaita 1.0 has been released, kickstarting a new bold new era for GTK apps. Now, there’s been a fair bit of controversy (and misunderstanding) over what libadwaita is and isn’t. It’s pitched as a library that implements the (new) GNOME HIG. It’s a GTK4-based successor to the GTK3-based libhandy library that has, over the past few years, given GTK apps cool adaptive capabilities. Libadwaita is set to become pretty tightly intwined with GNOME as, in a break with the past, this library comes with a stylesheet —what we think of as GTK themes are actually just stylesheets— baked in.
