A frequent complaint about okra is that it is "slimy" in soups.

But did you know that you can "de-snot" okra by sautéing it with an acid such as lemon juice or vinegar BEFORE adding it to your soups/gumbo? No slime!

Had a wonderful cup of coffee w/my AeroPress this morning. It was so good, I had a second cup with my PB sandwich for lunch.

Stormy day aches but still a good day. I feel like I've accomplished a few things, which is always a plus.

Dinner tonight will be leftover sausage & shrimp gumbo, so no cooking required.

It's been a dreary day, though not too cold despite on/off rain. Got a lot done, so happy with that.

Have shrimp & sausage gumbo for dinner tonight. Just have to add the shrimp after everything else simmers for a few. Homemade bread is rising to go with it. Delicious dinner!

What a special treat to be able to use my great-grandmother Elma's old pot to make an early Christmas gumbo for my Dad and his wife yesterday.

Elma was known to be quite particular about what went on in her kitchen, so hopefully my work is up to her high standards.

Still a couple weeks before getting back to Louisiana for the holidays, but it smells and tastes just about right here in this Michigan kitchen.
