July 17th, 1992: Metallica co-headline tour with Guns 'N Roses begins at RFK Stadium, Washington DC.
I feel like Dave and Duff have played in a band before. Am I wrong?
Y'know, this just cements my belief that Dave Grohl is the nicest man in rock.
He's didn't come to Glastonbury just to play a set with his band, he came because he likes being there, played his set, then hung around to watch all the other bands.
TAKE ME DOWN TO THE PARADOX CITY WHERE THE GIRLS ARE GREEN AND THE GRASS IS PRETTY
I'M ON A NIGHT TRAIN!
I hope to god you've muted me by now, if you couldn't give a shit about GnR.
So here's a thing about Knockin' On Heaven's Door; there's a bit about 2/3 of the way in where there's this scratching noise. For years I assumed it was because my tape copy was a bit fucky or something, only to discover earlier this year that it's actually intentional because it's on the remastered version.
I have no idea what that noise is, but it genuinely sounds like a fault in the recording process somewhere.
Nice of them to program in a nice sit down for Slash. The guy's nearly 60, he can't be standing all evening.
Wonder if they'll play One In A Million tonight?
(No, they probably won't - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_in_a_Million_(Guns_N%27_Roses_song)#Controversy)
Yeah. Axl can't sing November Rain any more.
No shade, btw. The guy's 61 ffs, and let's be honest, he's lived a rock star's life. I can't sing it, and I'm 42 with a sedate life behind me.
Somebody once said that the worst thing to ever happen to music was Axl being allowed to have a piano on his records.
And while I don't necessarily agree, I understand the feeling behind the comment.
Oh, and this is your periodic reminder that Slash was born in London, thus we can rightly claim him as One Of Us.
And now they're playing the song that most people have gone to see them for.
I've always thought Sweet Child was kinda dull. I mean, it's fine, and fun to sing along to , but compared to literally everything else on Appetite... it's ...ok...
But hey, it pays their mortgages, so fair play. I could never write a track so catchy.
What's kind of a headfuck is them finishing each song, and my head starts humming the next song on whichever album it's from. I know those albums inside out, so it's kinda spinning me out that they're not playing them in album order, even though that makes no sense.
YES!
You Could Be Mine is a Fucking Great track (if you ignore half the lyrics*). The musicianship and production on it are absolutely phenomenal.
FUN FACT
If Robert Patrick had had his way, his brother's band would have featured on the Terminator 2 soundtrack instead of this. Sadly, Filter were still a year or so away from releasing Hey Man, Nice Shot, so didn't get their break then.
*are you sensing a theme here?
Does anyone want to mention to them that the war in Ukraine isn't actually a civil war though. That's literally kinda the point. Ukraine isn't Russia.
It's no legs guitar, as used by KG from Tenacious D, mind.
Fuck yeah! Slash going full on guitar hero with a double neck guitar.
Also, Civil War is a fucking great track. The lyrics are somewhat on the nose, but it carries a message worth repeating.
To be clear, those lyrics are Not Great.
