From the "We are Sikhs" facebook page:
"β€œOver 2,000 years ago, a special Child was born in a humble manger in the small town of Bethlehem. Today, we celebrate his birth as well as his universal teachings of hope, joy, freedom, justice, peace, forgiveness and helping others in need.
Over 351 years ago, Guru Gobind Singh ji was born today in the small town of Patna, Bihar. He gave his life to uphold the values of justice, equality and freedom for all. Because of his founding of the Khalsa panth, Sikhs have a unique identity and a spiritual journey. Without the Guru, Sikhs wouldn't have a distinguished identity and culture - something we are extremely proud of.
As a Sikh, I too celebrate Christmas as these are the same values that we all share. We can improve ourselves and advance our communities by learning from one another and celebrating everything that we have in common instead of focusing on what divides us. In the words of the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji (whose birthday is also being celebrated today), "Recognize the human race as one."
Happy Gurpurab and Merry Christmas!”
