The results of moving a large bulk of the CSS of my own WordPress FSE theme from style.css to theme.json is that unless you are making one of those mega flexible themes that you want to release on the .org repository, then stick with style.css for the most part.

This seems to be the reason why the likes of the twentytwentythree theme just aren't aesthetically pleasing out of the box.

Two interesting things I've been working on:

1. Getting a compose.yml file going for DockPress, making it easier to work with and to add to other projects. (Hopefully replacing VVV.)

2. Moving the stylesheet for my blog at aldavigdis.dev away from a CSS file to theme.json. It kind of sucks to be honest, so I am thinking of moving colour definitions back into the CSS to keep media queries and dark mode.

I may probably blog about it soon.

I found an epitaph-worthy poem: "O may I join the choir invisible!", by Mary Ann Evans (pen name Gorge Eliot).

The first and last lines would make a great epitaph indeed:

"
O may I join the choir invisible
Whose music is the gladness of the world.
"

It is the first poem from a collection of the same name, available here from: gutenberg.org/cache/epub/20742

So I've been working on this server rendered Gutenberg block that displays current weather reports from a limited set of Icelandic weather stations.

Not sure if this is too niche for release on wordpress.org, but it's been fun to play with React and blocks for the first time in years.

(The icons are from erikflowers.github.io/weather- and the data comes from the Icelandic Met Office via apis.is.)

@patamystic oh yeah doesn’t expect you to created content on a non desktop device only consume content on one. It’s so frustrating how we were “mobile first” but somehow lost our way after the showed up.

CURIOUS ARTS

Something rather wonderful for writers who need to source early 19th Century info, artists and handicrafters who want to replicate old techniques, or people who just love trawling through antique and vintage trivia (me!):

A SELECT COLLECTION OF VALUABLE AND CURIOUS ARTS AND INTERESTING EXPERIMENTS

gutenberg.org/cache/epub/38067

All sorts of just fascinating stuff in this 1826 edition, mostly practical ("To dye silk a brilliant gold colour"; "To make elastic varnish for umbrellas"), but also including whimsical items such as "Sympathetic inks for secret correspondence" and fun parlor tricks ("To light a candle by application of ice").

The appendix alone is a treasure trove, with a list of items / ingredients used in the book, including explanations of those items, and their prices.

FSE Themes? Help! I don't build client websites any more, when I did I used to use Genesis. My business site is a first generation with Genesis. My club wants to re-skin / rebuild their new members website. Which I put together using 16-9 and they want something more modern. Of course I end up in this pro bono. My issue is do I advise them to look at some traditional themes, Astra, Ocean etc or themes? Is there really much value if we are going FSE?

Customizing the author page for the first time on this WordPress site using and it baffles me that lets us get this far into not making this easy to do here.

I wish I could have a sample author show up here so i can see in real time if I picked the correct stuff or not. I cant see a way to do that.

The Malleus Maleficarum is the best known treatise on .
Factors stimulating widespread use:
Between 1487 and 1520, twenty editions of the Malleus Maleficarum were published, and another sixteen between 1574 and 1669. The Malleus Maleficarum was able to spread throughout Europe rapidly in the late 15th and at the beginning of the 16th century due to the innovation of the printing press in the middle of the 15th century by Johannes . The invention of some thirty years before the first publication of the Malleus Maleficarum instigated the fervor of witch hunting."

Ronsard, a global village entrepreneur. Thanks to the Gutenberg press, his poetry work became famous and participated in our mutation, from medieval wild man to astronaut. The New York Public Library is probably the best place to research this, in the company of Edward Hopper’s studious figures. “Ronsard at NYPL”, diptych, oil and gold leaf on canvas, 56 x 40 inches, 2022.

The plugin is out today. It gives you full control over the and combined with visual editing. After you've designed the site it can be edited in , no dependency. This might become my main tool, I've used the desktop version for static sites for about a year.
