BOOK REVIEW -RIVER OF STARS by Guy Gavriel Kay
Kay's 12th novel is his take 12th century #China during the Song Dynasty. It follows Ren Daiyan's rise throught the ranks for the Emperor's army, and Lin Shan, favorite poet of the Exalted One.
If you're unfamiliar with Kay, he's the best living writer of #historic #fantasy. Mostly standalone, his books make forays into the dark recesses of history. Excellent #book. For me it is reminiscent of #SHOGUN, an old favorite. #GuyGavrielKay #RiverOfStars

Just finished THE LIONS OF AL-RASSAN by Guy Gavriel Kay. I had thought that nothing would top TIGANA, but this book is simply brilliant.
In my opinion, GGK is the best that there has ever been at writing the standalone fantasy novel. He excels in building worlds in 500 pages that match the works that took Tolkien, Martin, Howard and Herbert many volumes and 1000s of pages. I am blessed to have discovered and been inpired by his work.

@caffeneko The best description is historical fantasy. I discovered him after he was quoted in an article about Dorothy Dunnett, my favorite author of all time He considers her one of his inspirations and you can tell. Amazing detail and compelling characters #GuyGavrielKay #DorothyDunnett
