In the we are overstepping , which puts strain on the whole system and its ability to maintain . What might be the consequences if such a out of balance system gets impacted by a and the following ? I try to understand the implications in this new post on : existentialcrunch.substack.com

As this post is also a conference paper, I would highly appreciate feedback!

Three .

One with a high surface and biodiversity that gave rise to a technological civilisation.

The others are a hot rocky world with runaway greenhouse effect and a cool gaseous giant .

Oxygenic photosynthetic responses of exposed under an M dwarf simulator.

Cyanobacteria were shown to grow and photosynthesize similarly under M dwarf and solar light conditions.

This implies that cyanobacteria, the foundations of photosynthetic on Earth, could function and flourish under M dwarf surface conditions considering starlight.

Rocky orbiting M-dwarf stars are among the most promising astronomical targets for detecting climates.

But they are also synchronously rotating eith significant day-night temperature differences, and potentially limited fractional .

However, for water-limited planets it is possible to have scorching temperatures in the "eye" and freezing temperatures on the nightside, while maintaining a temperate in the terminator region.

A side piece of one of my more fun projects: releasing a browse-able, translated and plain language version of the Massachusetts rules for habitable housing: code.getuptocode.org/#/es/. AFAICT this is the first such website. In past you'd need to link to a giant PDF.

The linked website is still in progress, but excited to see it ready soon! And yes, we'll be updated to the new in April.

Earth is about 29% land and 71% oceans. How significant is that mix for ? What does it tell us about habitability?

Multiple factors contribute to our 's overall habitability: abundant liquid water, plate tectonics, bulk composition, proximity to the Sun, the magnetosphere, etc.

But what about a planet's ratio of oceans to land?

Construction on the world’s biggest eye on the sky, ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope () continues at the summit of Cerro Armazones in the Chilean Atacama Desert.

This gargantuan instrument will enable direct detections of around the nearest stars to the Sun, enabling the study of their atmospheric compositions and prospects for .
