Sometimes I swear, the arrogance of men on the internet, especially in #aviation circles, is dumbfounding. I dared to share the cost of my plane's first annual (warning, it was a big one) and of course immediately there's people calling me an idiot for paying so much, accusing my mechanics of ripping me off, etc.

So if you are interested in knowing just how expensive #airplane ownership can be or if you're a #pilot and want to hear my saga, here you go. I did what I do and made a video.

Night flying is best #flying. A bit of a warming trend finally gave me the opportunity to re-establish my night currency. Flew down to Rockford and then did some patterns at home to get my necessary takeoffs and landings in. Good for another 90 days!!

Oh happy day!!

It's officially official that I'm official.

10 weeks after passing my check ride I finally have my permanent #pilot certificate. This puts the truest "DONE" stamp on my dream. #HackerFlightSchool is a true success (even though it's not done, onward to instrument training next).

Unexpectedly good weather today gave this #pilot a chance to go do some scenic flying. Flew the #Chicago lakefront flyway down to Gary, Indiana and back. Yeah I know, "Alyssa you hate Gary". It was a convenient place to stop, rest a little and turn around and the FBO at the airport is quite nice!

Another #aviation goal checked off today. It's hard to believe that it is not only legal but their preference for you to fly this low and close to the city. It's days like this that make #HackerFlightSchool so worth the effort and cost!!

Milestone day for me as a #pilot. I got out to fly for a short bit this afternoon and it included landing for the first time at an airport I've been in and out of countless times in my life, KMKE in Milwaukee!!

OK so today started off pretty awful. Thankfully the weather cooperated and I got the chance for some sky therapy today. Hit a #pilot milestone, #100Hours.

Been a hot minute since I gave a true #HackerFlightSchool update, but I'm back in the learner's seat again. Now it's getting trained up on complex #aircraft (defined as a plane with flaps, retractable gear, and an adjustable prop). Did my first 1.6 hours in a #Piper Arrow with my CFI this morning. Went on a 4 airport tour.

Ended up with 5 landings and nailed every one of them (whew!). Pressure was on for sure.

(Plane pictured looks almost identical to the one I flew but with an Italian tail number, clearly it's not the one I flew today)

On this day in 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made their first two flights in the #aircraft they had built. 118 years, 11 months and 11 days later, I proudly received my certificate from the FAA allowing me to take flight in my aircraft. It's easy to take the concept of flight for granted these days since it has become so ingrained in our way of life with our massive airliners and sprawling airports. Getting my #pilot certificate has been a great reminder of just how incredible a thing it is and I feel so very fortunate to be able to experience it in the way I do when I hop inside 55J.

I'm truly thankful for opportunity to do this and to my sister for coming on my first real flight. I also cannot wait to share this experience with my friends and my family. (Now if the weather would just cooperate)

One of the best parts of flying is that moment when the plane lifts off the runway and you realize you're literally defying gravity. This is a view I don't normally at that point, so I love that my sister's video captured it. Watching as the shadow of my plane quickly becomes smaller and more distant while we climb into the air.

Have I mentioned lately how thankful I am to be able to experience such moments?

OMG Y'all, this is what it all that hard work was all about. I took my first passenger flying today! Picked up my sister in Appleton, flew to Janesville for a $100 hamburger at Bessie's, and then back. Got to land with the big boys and girls ("You're #2 for landing behind an Airbus 320 on 2 mile final" 😳​) so got to exercise wake turbulence avoidance for the first time. Absolutely amazing day.
