Masters of Reality release the second album, “Sunrise On The Sufferbus”

Great album cover art and title. And just an overall great rock album with Ginger Baker on drums!

I hadn’t heard of this band when this came out, but their first album is also pretty good. What I like about Sunrise is the variety of song structures. Several bluesy, driving rock songs, as well as quirky tunes like “T.U.S.A.” (how to make a proper cup of tea from a Brit) and “Madonna”, a short, sweet, and funny jab at the famous singer at the time.

I love the guitar production and the voice of lead singer Chris Goss. The opening track was their hit, and the closer is just as good. Check it out

Metallica release their 4th album, “And Justice For All”

Pretty much their last true hard thrash-metal album. Perhaps their best album to date. ??

I was just starting college and Metallica was getting popular, approaching mainstream status with the release of this album.

My older brother had all their records, starting with 1983’s “Kill ‘Em All”, so I was long familiar with Metallica. I loved most of their previous album, “Master of Puppets”, so was eager to hear this one.

What I recall noticing was an improved sound quality. And of course some great guitar work.

Favorite track is probably “Shortest Straw” 👇

England's Glory - “City of Fun” (1973/1989)

England's Glory was Peter Perrett's pre-The Only Ones band and included Perrett on guitar and vocals.

This is from their "Legendary Lost Album," which was recorded in 1973 but released officially (there were bootlegs in the interim years) in 1989.

If this song sounds familiar, it’s because Parrett re-recorded this song later with the Only Ones. It’s on their album “Special View”

Living Colour release their second LP, “Time's Up”

As a fan of guitar-centric music, it was inevitable that I’d love this mix of hard rock and funk with a punk attitude. Yeah, the Chili Peppers had a similar vibe, but Living Colour is on a whole other level.

The band had success with their prior album, released in 1988 and featuring the hit “Cult of Personality”. But I prefer Time’s Up. It’s got a better sound quality, more guitar virtuosity, and some of my favorite LC songs, including the title track, which is about the environment and how we’re running out of time to save it. In 1990! It also includes guest vocals from Queen Latifah, Doug E Fresh, and Little Richard!! 🎸
