Soooo I finished #HarrowTheNinth last night. Whee! What a trip. As before, immediately bought #NonaTheNinth and diving into that tonight most likely.

tl;dr the worldbuilding for this series suffers the better a look you get at it, but the vibes/characterizations/dialogue/omgwhathappensnext more than make up for it.

I am approximately 1/3 into #HarrowTheNinth (book 2 of #GideonTheNinth trilogy) and

1) I’ve already twigged the (an?) obvious twist, but am otherwise confused enough that everything is still deliciously tense/suspenseful. Nice that it’s a different kind of tale than the first book too.

2) I just got to the “cool letter of the alphabet” reference and briefly lost my composure 🤣🤣🤣 Muir really has a gift for sneaking this dumb shit in & I love it

Nearly finished #GideonTheNinth, I honestly think this is a book I’ll need to read twice before moving onto #HarrowTheNinth. It took me so long to get a handle on it with so many named characters. Something that didn’t help, was the switching between using first/last name and titles. It made sense in context but it made it harder to keep track of people.

Finally finished Harrow the Ninth yesterday, the second book in Tamsyn Muir's "Locked Tomb" series. I tremendously enjoyed it - highly distinct setting (necromancers, swordfighting, and queerness in space). The story is twisted, spiced up with puzzles and the occasional mystery. The writing is on point, deft, skilful, landing its punches.

Couldn't sleep so I started reading Harrow the Ninth instead. It's super intense and weird from the start, and I have so many questions already! I'm even more hooked than I was for the previous book!

Although I have yet to find an adequate soundtrack to listen to while I read it. The OST from BLACKTAIL matches quite well but I have trouble finding something as compelling but with a more sci-fi vibe.

Okay... I've restarted the audiobook of Tamsyn Muir's Harrow the Ninth for a third time, having reached the end of Act One and remained thoroughly confused.

I'm told this is to be expected and it'll all make sense eventually, but I also don't feel I've taken enough in to make sense of it later. Maybe coming at it now, fresh after the holidays, a bit less burnt out, will allow my brain to take more of it in. Fingers crossed! 🤞

What a fantastic unexpected joy to stumble sideways into an morbidly funny, dark, gut-punching, visceral mythology. Finished Book 2. I don’t read that much, and aside from the sci-fi part, not sure I’m a target demographic. I'm feeling very dumb about the end of this book. So Gideon in Harrow's body swam up into the River and... Lived?

And Harrow in the River went into the Locked Tomb and died there? Or maybe took the backseat in her body and went to sleep in a memory construct Gideon made for her?
