Wat zijn de boeken van Haruki Murakami toch altijd vol fantasie en troost! Ik las net ‘De kleurloze Tsukuru Tazaki en zijn pelgrimsjaren’ in één ruk (vooruit, in 2 dagen) uit. Deze zit zó vol symboliek en wijsheden. En ook hier een directe confrontatie met de dood. Zal nog wel even voortduren- geeft niet! #boek #lezen #HarukiMarakami

‘Hard-boiled Wonderland en Het einde van de wereld’ door Haruki Murakami. Bijna filosofisch boek over 2 werelden die verschillend zijn maar toch hetzelfde. De hoofdpersoon en de bibliothecaresse en de schedels verbinden de twee. Hypnotiserend mooi en fijn om herlezen te hebben. #lezen #boek #HarukiMarakami

There's a some Haruki Murakami books that I liked quite a bit (Kafka on the Shore, Hardboiled Wonderland, and Wind Up Bird Chronicle). I just cannot get into some of these others I've tried to read (1Q84, Dance Dance Dance, A Wild Sheep Chase). It seems like he spends way more time describing these mundane things and nothing happens. The plot just sort of limps along. Kafka on the Shore didn't seem to suffer from this, but the other two I mentioned suffer from the same thing to various degrees. I'd love to find some more books that are kind of mash-up of magical realism, soft sci fi, and mystery/noir, but who writes that?

This is from Sean O’Hagan’s review of #HarukiMarakami’s new (sort of) memoir in The Observer/Guardian. It reminds me of something Michael Marra’s told me about working with Bjorn from #ABBA, who - Marra said - had an almost mathematical approach to language, having learned English from #Elvis records.
