Per a filing on Jan 26, 2023, the $5 million class-action suit against Spartan Mosquito is over.

“This action is hereby dismissed without prejudice pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 41(a)(1)(A)(ii), without award of costs or fees to any party.”

So over 3 years ago I became curious about some internet sensation called "the Spartan Mosquito Eradicator". It's a tube filled with water, sugar, yeast, and table salt, and the manufacturer says it will kill up to 95% of the #mosquitoes in your yard for 90 days (unbelievable!!). I eventually published a review of the device ... and immediately got sued by the company. The lawsuit has been really sucky, of course, but for fun I submitted #FOIA requests to the states that had banned sales of the device (there are over a dozen and counting). And the documents I got back confirmed everything I had said in my review. If you'd like to have a look, I just made a blog post with the FOIA results. The company, based in #Hattiesburg, Mississippi (USA), markets tubes filled with sugar, yeast, water, and either sodium chloride or boric acid — and claims they kill mosquitoes (I'm skeptical). Through FOIA requests, I've obtained some of the data the company sends to states and to the #EPA to secure registrations, and I'd love to get opinions on whether the data are trustworthy.
