Cyclone #Gabrielle struck #NewZealand over a week ago, causing infrastructural damage, and killing at least 11 people. In the #HawkesBay area, lots of apples are grown, and damage is extensive. The photo shows a destroyed orchard, complete with toppled orchard sprayer. We hope the growers in the area can recover from the devastation. It's beyond time to take #climatechange seriously.

A 9pm update from @metservice brings us updated weather warnings, with Orange Heavy Rain Warnings in place for #Coromandel, #Gisborne, and #HawkesBay overnight and into Friday.

This is on top of our already sodden ground, so if you’re concerned at all please prepare your go-bag and prepare to head out.

I'm not too sure that everyone understands the gravity of the situation in #hawkesbay. Unison says that there are approx 46,000 homes still without power, including all of Napier. 4hr queues for rationed food, no communications, many still missing, livelihoods destroyed. They lost power Monday morning. There is no information or plan being communicated to remedy this. 1/2 #NZ #napier #gabriellecyclone

#Napier no new flooding or evacuation orders in city. Power still out to many, Council wants residents to share VERIFIED information with as many people as possible. Water safe to drink & water supplies not at risk.

Supplies being delivered to local communities.Supermarkets are open with generators.

A special edition of Hawke's Bay Today, including official information, will be distributed at supermarkets, dairies, petrol stations, & other businesses.

#HawkesBay SH51 between Napier & Hastings & SH51 between Napier and Clive are open BUT should only be used for essential travel. SH50 remains closed.

#Hastings please conserve fuel. Only travel for essentials. Water is safe to drink except for Te Pohue & CHB which must be boiled

#Napier water safe to drink but please conserve. Stay out of floodwater. Evac centre at Centennial Events Centre at McLean Park on Latham St open if needed. Call 105 or 06 835 7579 if you need welfare assistance.
