Interesting new #study showing an increase in nighttime #urban #heat island (UHI) intensity in 28 of 32 #cities in #Europe during historical #heatwaves using #weather station data: https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-9326/aca3ba
No substantial variations were found during daytime.
We found similar results in a modeling study last year over the #US: https://doi.org/10.1029/2021GL095678
This study also examined #urban #heatstress islands (UHSI). With background #warming, nighttime UHSI intensified while daytime UHSI decreased.
