@Ruth_Mottram It's very hard to uproot the fallacy that protecting the environment must be economically affordable, when in reality an economy can only exist within, and on terms set by, the environment.

Heinlein (1945) on ecology. Read it as a teen and never forgot it.

A favorite one of is Robert A. Heinlein's "The star beast".
This is one of his juvenile books, but it is fun and interesting also for my old age.
The book is set about 200-300 years in the future.
Earth is part of a human-alien coalition of nearby stars.
The book begins with telling us about Lammox, an 8-legged rhino-sized alien pet who gets bored and hungry, so he escapes his human owner's back yard.
