I had a good experience with #GBIF. A record from the Natural History Museum in London had stag-horn fern, Platycerium bifurcatum, present in Wellington, NZ, in 1933, "very common on rocks and cliff faces.” This species is only now starting to naturalise from Auckland garden plants.
I submitted a note and within days the senior curator of ferns at NHM emailed saying they'd corrected the mistake—it was in Papua New Guinea—and updated the species ID.

Support is urgently requested to help keep Kew Herbarium at Kew.
The Director and Trustees intend to move the #Herbarium over an hour away from its current location at the heart of Kew.
Separating the herbarium from the gardens, library, and laboratories will cripple the ongoing taxonomic work at a time when we are facing a dire biodiversity crisis.

Science staff at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, whose work helps address the global extinction crisis, have asked for people to sign this petition.
The plan to move the #herbarium would isolate it from the living collections in the gardens, from the library, from the Jodrell laboratories, and from the scientists at Kew Gardens, plus make access more difficult for visiting scientists from around the world.

Got to see three type specimens at the herbarium today and a fern specimen collected by Darwin. I really love my new job! #Botany #Herbarium

Thanks to @FediFollows I gained quite a number of new followers. Welcome!
Maybe this is a good opportunity to show what I am doing as a #herbarium #curator.
Curators are basically librarians for collectibles other than books. In my case, I take care of the plant collections of the #NaturalHistoryMuseumLondon.
Taking care means a lot of things. I digitise (database and image), repair, clean and update herbarium specimens.

When great caricologists converse across time: interaction via annotation, Kenneth Kent Mackenzie and Frederick Hermann.
Fellow #herbarium curators and users: do appreciate getting loans returned with a fragment packet tucked in if material needed to be removed? Or is that more trouble that it's worth? Myself, I'd rather have the fragment packet.

From today's canoe trip through the inundated forests of the Caeté river floodplain -- this liana is actually a gymnosperm (should be Gnetum venosum Spruce ex Benth.). We collected this specimen for our herbarium at the University of Pará (UFPA) in Bragança (HBRA).
