This is absolutely insane.
Folks aren't allowed share an opinion now? Lord knows what some of the shirts of my youth would lead to these days....

@PaulCometto C’est surtout dangereux et illégal, remember #Hillsborough a #SHEFFIELD ou le Stade «Nacional » de #Lima et malheureusement bien d’autres drames !!

As for me, am I doing okay? Outside of work?
I’m alright. I’m getting there. Have an appointment with my #therapist at 10am and have some stuff I want to talk about. The #Hillsborough anniversary often brings up emotions I try to avoid, but I’m becoming more open to feeling what I feel and leaning into that. It’s a learning curve for me, but I’ve been doing some reading on #vulnerability and it’s been a hell of an eye opener for me.

On this day in 1989, ninety seven people went to a football match and never went home. We will never forget them.

I would spit in Duckenfield’s face without a moment’s hesitation were I ever to encounter him.
That would be assault. But I’d do time for that man, no problem. None.
The injustice lies with him not being held accountable. His actions killed 97 people and forever changed the lives of thousands more. Including my own.
What happened after I walked through that gate and saw the tunnel directly in front of me is my story. I am a #Hillsborough #survivor. But don’t ever fucking call me ‘lucky’.
And now I work with the police.
34 years on, I’m working alongside an organisation I truly hated with an absolute passion.
I ultimately came to the realisation through working with them, that they’re people. Individuals who put on a uniform. These people, my colleagues, are not to blame for the injustice of #Hillsborough, it wasn’t them.
It was him, and his colleagues. #Duckenfield and his cronies. Not the ones I work alongside today, most of whom weren’t even born in 89.

That lie, even though he retracted it soon after, was the first version of events that went in front of the public.
That is when the blame was first laid at the feet of us, the fans. Or as he would have you believe - drunken ticketless louts.
I wasn’t drunk or a lout and I still have my ticket from #Hillsborough, with the stub still attached. I went through that exit gate that HE had ordered be opened.
I was a terrified, bewildered 18yo whose life changed forever that day in 1989.
I have met Jenni Hicks, although she wouldn’t remember me. Most memorably I met her on 15th April 1990, when we were in the referee’s changing room at #Anfield on the first anniversary of #Hillsborough. We were preparing roses, tying name tags to them and pinning them to 4 white trays which would be carried onto the pitch by 4 survivors at the first memorial service.
I made sure I carried the one with Sarah and Vicki’s roses.

Today is the 34th anniversary of the #Hillsborough disaster.
Many of those who perished were children, looking forward to a day trip on a sunny spring day to support their football team.
Their families, along with those of other victims, have suffered intolerable pain and cruelty, made worse by relentless smears from successive governments, the police, and sections of the media.
Let us remember them and honour their memories.
Justice For The 97.
Never buy the S*n.
Never vote Conservative.
Remembering the 97 fans who tragically lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough disaster ❤️ #Hillsborough
I can't let today pass without a mention for #LFC. I can still remember vividly watching the awful news about #Hillsborough as it happened 34 years ago today. No one should ever go to a #football match and not come home. #justiceforthe97 #YNWA

34 years today since the #Hillsborough darkness descended on us. Hideously, families/survivors/many others are being re-traumatised as a result of cruel, vile chanting and abuse at matches/online. @IrishTimes piece highlights the awful impact, incl depression and suicide. #JFT97
Today is of course 15th April.
Since 1989, this has been a tough one for me.
34 years of injustice.
And six years of feeling this inner conflict between me as a person and me as a professional. Me as a #Hillsborough survivor, and me as someone who works hand-in-hand with the police.
It is a complex juxtaposition for me. I may give this some more thought later before I head into work again.
For now though, sleep. Goodnight Mastodon.
Great to see. Luke is a friend and a very fine committed person. #Hillsborough and #DownshireWest couldn't do better.

Sickening to see so many #BernardIngham obituaries/tributes - including from people who should know better (but not @guardian) - ignore his disgraceful role in the #Hillsborough cover-up and the subsequent self-harm and suicide caused by the cover-up and lies he helped spread. #JFT97
