522 followers · 1589 posts · Server neurodifferent.mePosting that ADF song for #JukeboxFridayNight #FiftyYearsOfHipHop, from the first hiphop record I bought, puts me in mind of Roots Manuva - because most of Brand New Second Hand was amongst the first raft of songs I downloaded when exploring Napster for the first time, way back when.
I don't pretend to know much about hiphop history (or much music history in general), but this I know: Roots Manuva is a giant figure in the development of British hiphop, because he was the first to find success whilst being distinctively *British*, not following American styles. Raps filled with British-Caribbean slang, talking about cheese on toast, the poll tax, or in this track, buying a pint at the pub with five quid burning a hole in your pocket.
Writing this has reminded me how much I loved Roots Manuva back then (I did buy the album eventually). Should listen more often.

Un año más, Vallekas celebrará las Fiestas de la Karmela 2023, las fiestas autogestionadas y realizadas por los colectivos del barrio. Del 13 al 16 de Julio, las pistas del parque Javier de Miguel serán el epicentro de toda la jarana y los festejos más rebeldes.
El lema de las Fiestas de La Karmela 2023 es «Suben los precios, sube la marea, ¡Súbete a la Cresta! 🌊» con el que se quiere señalar a la carestía de la vida, la hiperinflación generada por los grandes comercios en la cesta de la compra, los beneficios desorbitados de las empresas energéticas, la especulación inmobiliaria que afecta a todos los jóvenes y aunar a la clase trabajadora ante la patronal y el capital.
Habrá conciertos, torneos de ⚽, 🏀, 🏉 y ♟️, talleres de 🖼️, 🎤 y 🍹 y juegos acuáticos para los más peques.
