Me: Tell me I can't start three different costume projects before ren fest. One of them would include stays.
Also Me: Ok. I had a funny idea so I definitely just ordered fabric at $3/yard from Joanns for renfest.(yes this outfit includes stays but I'm using the inaccurate Simplicity pattern)

I made a hand-sewn linen shift a couple years ago, following a Burnley and Trowbridge sew-along on YouTube. It fit me just right when I made it, but now the sleeves are too tight. I'd like to think that's from weightlifting, but I think it's actually one of the results of the Summer of Free Ice Cream. I'm finally getting around to unpicking the sleeve seams and re-sewing them. Those sure are some sturdy seams!
I have fitted #TheLinenRidingJacket and it took AN AGE 😂
I was half way down the fitting process when I remembered that in addition to my scoliosis, my hip bones are super wonky and barely match? This would have been good data to remember *before* devising a jacket this exactly fitted to the hips!
But, good enough. The slight droop at the side back will get fixed when I lower the arm hole and affix the sleeve on that side, but I don't want the linen to unravel so I'm leaving it for now.

I promised my opera buddy that I'd take pictures of my finished #1780sLoki dress and I'm going to see her for the first time since November so I guess I may as well take a full costume picture (even though I still need to attach the breeches buckles).

I'm really looking forward to this (free) online symposium on February 2, organised by the Centre for Design History at the University of Brighton / Techne Doctoral Training Partnership:
✂️ Thinking through Making
"What can historians and theorists of design and dress learn from the practices of making? How can we know fashion and clothing better, as a system and a set of practices, through pattern and stitch?"
Read more & register here: https://blogs.brighton.ac.uk/centrefordesignhistory/2022/12/16/event-thinking-through-making-symposium-and-workshop-2-8-february-2023/
(It's actually a two-part event, part one is the online symposium, part two is an in-person workshop on Feb. 8.)

@valhalla @sewing I first read that as #1980s and nearly had a breakdown over the #HistoricalSewing hashtag! :D
Je suis rentrée de vacances (enfin), j'ai reçu mes dernières fournitures, il est temps de poursuivre l'aventure.

Update!
Hastily pinned together garment suggests I made the right choice. Something weird is happening at hip height (that might be my pinning) but the shoulders, arms, and chest are the best I've managed to date!
And hips should be easy to fix.
I have conquered the Keystone Guide's Waist draft!
Sleeves next? (Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Finish the vest first. And then wear it for a week to find any additional weirdnesses)

Hello Sewists!
I'm in need of a few things - a 1920s pattern, and suggestions for fabric....
I have, oooh, 1 month to get/make....
Anyone with experience?
Is this #HistoricalSewing?

The drafting guide in 1895 The "Keystone" Jacket and Dress Cutter absolutely does not respect my shoulders. Armscye comes out literally impossible.
There's like 4 different ways I could fix it. I'm about to start guessing wildly. I've done this draft like 3 times now -- different weird fit issues every time.
(Technically, this is a mockup for a larger project, but I'd kind of like it to be wearable.)

My toxic trait is starting a new sewing project before finishing the current one. Every time I take time off, my brain wants to make a new pair of stays. Still need to finish the buckles on my #1780sLoki costume and I'm planning a Westley/Man In Black/Dread Pirate Roberts outfit for my birthday in January so I need a black tunic...... But this Augusta Stays pattern is just so ~exciting~ so I've now printed, traced, and cut out all the pieces.

Time for an #intro!
I'm a French #software engineer and in my spare time I like #sewing, #knitting, watching TV series and playing #videoGames 🖥️🖱️
I also collect and restore antique sewing machines 🥰 and dabble in #HistoricalSewing
I like to learn new things, I don't like to #cook twice the same meal, and I'm currently exploring #KoreanFood! I eat mainly #vegetarian, sometimes vegan... And sometimes omni...
And I spend as much time as I can in the UK 🫖🇬🇧💂♀️❤️

#1780sLoki update: I made the skirt over the Thanksgiving holiday, and I am very proud of my pleating. I also decided to add some hooks and thread loops to the front bodice and am halfway through. But alas, when sewing the skirt on Sunday, I accidentally pricked my thumb and I can't hold a needle until it heals. On antibiotics for 10 days, lol. But next week, I should be able to finish the bodice loops and then shorten my breeches.

I have finished sewing on all the skirt panels and pinning the hem... And before I do any pleating or gathering at this waistline, I've got 107 inches/8.92 feet of hem to sew. This is going to be a big skirt...

I have been on PTO for eight hours, am still working on the skirt of my #1780sLoki dress, have a Renaissance tunic I want to make for my birthday in January.... And I can feel in my bones that I'm only weeks away from deciding I need to try to make another pair of stays.
Note that basically every time I get bored or antsy, I decide to make stays. I think I've made.... Three so far during COVID?

#1780sLoki update: I'm still working on the skirt (just sewed on a skirt panel, only to discover that it was upside down, so I had to use the seam ripper), but I've added boning to the front bodice and made a split rump from a pillow and fabric scraps. Also, I repadded my dress form again, so I think the stays are fitting better than before.
