Medieval Christian #art often has a high #quality that is missing from a lot of later examples. Meister Bertram (see picture) is an example of this. One reason might be that this art is, in a way, naïve, based on naïve belief. Naïve belief does not yet see alternatives. Confronted with alternatives, belief later turnes into #ideology and the corresponding art deteriorates into #kitsch. Ideology and kitsch belong together (in other ideologies as well) #aesthetics #historyofart #philosophy
