Torn Curtain (1966)

A curious #Hitchcock. Not bad, just not one of his better ones, and notable for the very unHitch & miscast Paul Newman & Julie Andrews and leaden script. Cold War double crossing spy drama that meanders along, with the inevitability that the stars survive whilst the rest around them perish to save them. The highlight is the appearance of Lila Kedrova towards the end who’s 15 mins in the film shines.

Rope (1948)

One of my favourite Hitchcock’s. Not only is the one-shot camera aesthetic interesting but it also has the murder right at the beginning, and the drama is on the coverup, psychology and discovery. The dinner party discussion on the merits of murder is delightful, but it’s Jimmy Stewart’s acting chops that are put to the real test here, more for what he doesn’t say and how he doesn’t than what he does. Undeservedly overlooked.
