I believe the pinnacle of cultural sophistication during the era occurred around 500 years ago, emanating from expansive agrarian societies that efficiently produced abundant food for large populations. While our modern technology offers amusement, our culture falls short of past levels of sophistication. However, as we enter the dawn of the era, we have the potential to evolve into an even more advanced culture.

for ! 🐴🐂🦥🐘🐪🐟 This nice crusty horse molar is housed at the Eitzen Museum in Eitzen, MN. It was donated by an individual from New Albin, IA on June 6, 1972.

Great information considering many smaller museum collections are not online or even well-documented!

It’s ! 🐴🦬🐪🦣🦥🦫🍃 Horses made America – feeding the American big cats during the Pleistocene and both transporting and feeding modern humans during the Holocene.
This skull from Bannack, Montana, and butchered tibia from New Ulm, Minnesota highlight both the modern mystique and the utility of the horse.

The CBC reports on the discovery of an archeological site in central Saskatchewan that dates to 8200 years ago. At that time, the Laurentide Ice Sheet and large proglacial lakes still covered a sizeable amount of Canada, though the ice in Hudson Bay collapsed at around that time. Interesting to think about the people living in this area at that time. cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/m

@petergleick thanks. also good to know: agriculture and settledness was only invented around 10.000 years ago, so under a rather stable climate that you can hardly recognize as such in the second last part of the plot before the sharp rise.

Happy !🦬🍃🦣🐪🦣 Here is a beefy Bison bison humerus found last fall by a friend of mine in Southern Minnesota. It was found eroding out of the side of a small tributary about 4 feet below the soil surface – just downhill from a tee box on a local golf course. ⛳

It has since been donated to the Science Museum of Minnesota for further study.

🐴 Happy ! The next year of the horse isn't until 2026 but the last couple of years have uncovered many horse specimens for me and a fellow fossil hunter. Horse specimens for us are second only to Bison bison finds. One of these teeth, if verified, will be the first Pleistocene horse documented in Minnesota! , , 🦬🦣🦥🐪

@BrianPierce @DrEvanGowan I’m aware of on , but not in settings like this. I am wondering whether a kettle could persist for ~ 12 ka as meters of and accumulate in the as floods the during the . @Anthro’s suggestion of scouring, or something similar, may be the explanation. Much to learn! Thanks for your post.

the is now formally divided (and has been for like 5 years, whoops) and we can no longer just go off vibes to know is something is Early/Middle/Late Holocene. We actually have to make sure. ruin everything.
