Spent a lovely day at #HolyIsland looking around the ruined #LindisfarnePriory with hubby & my boys. Such a beautiful place.
The only complaint was from my 10yo... The whole place should be in ruins in keeping with this beauty, not have a modern looking village right next to it.

20km along country lanes from #Berwick-Upon-Tweed to the causeway produced mainly skylarks, yellowhammers and plenty of dunnocks in the mangled hedgerows. A few pink-footed goose still around plus a few redshanks, oystercatcher. Obviously an overcast day. Hopefully a wheatear on the way back along the coastal footpath. #birds #UkBirds #UkBirding

Friday’s #ImageOfTheDay. The ruins of #Lindisfarne Priory on #HolyIsland where a new memorial has been created to mark the site of St #Cuthbert’s original burial-place in the former Anglo-Saxon monastery. These ruins are of the Benedictine Priory that was refounded as a cell of Durham Cathedral in 1083. The Priory Museum has also been revamped: it reopens this weekend.

Northumberland, nearly as good as Yorkshire 😏. From 2012, a rare visit to Lindisfarne - Holy Island - and a view of the castle. A gem of a place, connected to the mainland by a causeway so only accessible at low tide.

Image of the Day on the Feast of St John the Apostle & Evangelist. This is the Lindisfarne Gospel Book open at the initial words (“incipit page”) of St John’s Gospel, “In the beginning was the Word”, read at many Christmas services. Opposite is St John’s “carpet page”. The Book, written “in honour of God and St Cuthbert” dates from the early 8th century and was created on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
