Everything is chemistry! (Atoms)

Context: The type of people that have the right knowledge & attitudes to develop a sustainable culture, compared to those that don't.

"village idiot" = The general ignorant & arrogant personalities of many of the "village people" in my local community (unfortunately).

A definition of a "fool" (comparative psychology) - Is an adult that unintentionally harms themselves, and yet, arrogantly, is obliviously unaware of what they're doing.

No sensible person would choose to, for example, increase their chances of developing dementia.

Air Pollution and Dementia: A Systematic Review doi.org/10.3233/jad-180631

However, many people will actively try to avoid information that conflicts with a desired activity, belief, or opinion (attitudes, temperaments). For instance, the desire to drive a combustion-engined vehicle or use wood fuel or coal to heat the home, compared to the medical information that air pollution is harmful. Conflicting information causes cognitive dissonance. dictionary.apa.org/cognitive-d

Comparably, some adults are fools (their beliefs & behaviors). I mean, really, they're fools (unfortunately for them)

I don't say this with any form of pleasure. As "fools" harm cultures.

Many of the "village people" in my local community are "village idiots". They act like idiots, in some contexts, & they speak like idiots (in contexts where basic scientific literacy is needed)

Indoor particulate air pollution from open fires and the cognitive function of older people doi.org/10.1016/j.envres.2020.

But why?

Why do they, for example, choose to burn coal and wood? Why would a person, not only choose the most harmful method to heat their homes but also, react with denial & neurotically (e.g., temper tantrums) if their air-polluting choices are challenged? It's a "mad", but "normal" (average) character trait I've noticed from the "village idiots".

The most salient why - is their ignorance of basic science. Coal, wood, smoke, air & biology are all chemicals. And yet, the "village idiots" don't have a school-level comprehension of chemistry (& some of the idiots are politicians, business people, etc). Therefore, they don't have any fundamental basic comprehension of (objective) reality.

Of course, a person doesn't need to understand chemistry too, for example, do many jobs, watch TV, take the kids to school, or light a fire. But, a person does need to understand chemistry to comprehend themselves, and their physiology, & have a way to interpret, to perceive medically based information.

That lack of basic science is also why the "village idiot" is so easily greenwashed. They actually "parrot repeat" the nonsense of the, for example, wood fuel industries advertising (disinformation).

Talk to them about smoke pollution, & they talk nonsense. They repeat phrases such as "carbon lean". Repeating, in verbatim, the words that are printed on the leaflets that the wood fuel businesses post through the "village idiots" letter boxes. Can't they perceive that adverts are trying to sell them products? Not specifically the truth.

To make (development) a "village idiot" takes less than only being ignorant of chemistry. For instance, young children are generally uneducated about science (& some will learn). A "village idiot" always has a level of arrogance, so they believe in their nonsense. The "village idiot" has developed a dogmatic personality "streak". Their attitudes, their daily behaviors (routines), the news, politics, etc, they consume, means they are not learning, for example, chemistry.

They're simply holding onto that which makes them "village idiots". Ignorance, literally & psychologically, is implicit. Ignorance is what is not known (including what isn't imagined). They're "village idiots" but they don't recognize themselves as such. They actually say stupid things, but believe they're being smart.

Why? Because they live in a village, a family, a community, an ingroup, where the "village idiot" is "normal" (the average).

For example, speak to a "village idiot" about smoke pollution, & more often than not, their response is, to paraphrase, "do you know how many people in this village use wood or coal to heat their homes!".

The "idiot" believes "it's" "right" (the belief, opinion) according to how many other people, in their ingroup, agrees with them. So, in a village where the "idiot" is the general base-line level of, for example, a non-comprehension of chemistry, their idiocy is the "normal" (a social echo chamber)

The village idiots, are adults that harm their own & community's health, for example, by choosing to burn coal & wood, and defend their own bad choices. Because they believe they are reasonable choices (poor decisions based on ignorance & disinformation). Again, because they simply do not comprehend reality. They do not understand the context. They do not comprehend chemistry. Therefore biology. Therefore, themselves.

Therefore, they're also easily manipulated by advertising (e.g., greenwash). Manipulated by those that seek to make money by selling them harmful products (e.g., the wood & fossil fuels industries)

No Miracles Needed

How Today's Technology Can Save Our Climate and Clean Our Air!

"The world needs to switch away from using fossil fuels to using renewable sources of energy as soon as possible. Failure to do so will lead to accelerated and catastrophic climate damage, loss of biodiversity, and economic, social, and political instability. This book describes how to solve the climate crisis, and at the same time eliminate air pollution and safely secure energy supplies for all - without using miracle technologies"web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/ja

We can do this! We can resolve climate change.

Hello, Mastodonians and peeps in general.

This toot is written to be a form of reflective introspection.

Have you noticed how many politicians keep saying that their intentions are to deal with human-caused climate change by "sometime in the future"?

And yet, right here, right now - we (the majority) are still burning as many fossil fuels as ever. The majority of people (in fuel-powered economies) are still filling up our vehicles with diesel and petrol ("gas" in the USA).

The industries are still looking for, manufacturing, and investing in more fossil fuels. The sales in wood fuels are increasing as fossil fuels become more expensive (& fossil fuel industries make record profits).

Have you noticed how many politicians keep saying that their intentions are to deal with human-caused climate change by "sometime in the future"?

They're, in general, lying! (e.g., many politicians have close connections to the fuel industries)

"*Internal* Fossil Fuel Industry *Memos* Reveal Decades of Corporate Disinformation" ucsusa.org/resources/climate-d

This is how it can be - how it already could (just about) have been "100% Clean and Renewable Wind, Water, and Sunlight All-Sector Energy Roadmaps for 139 Countries of the World" doi.org/10.1016/j.joule.2017.0

First, the industries tried to suppress the science that burning fossil fuels was heating up the climate. + cultures (average person) in general self-repress the medical evidence regarding how air pollution, and how their vehicles - are harming everyone's health (simply - they don't want to know)

They (the majority- country dependent) blame the climate protesters for stopping traffic. For demonstrating against air-polluting, harmful activities - rather than accepting the truth.

Traffic pollution (air pollution) causes brain damage: Retrospective cohort study. The British Journal of Psychiatry, 219(6), 678-685. doi.org/10.1192/bjp.2021.119

Second, the industries and associated politicians speak climate "blah blah blah" (virtue signaling. i.e., moral grandstanding)

Have you noticed how many rich politicians & eco-damaging businesses keep saying that - their intentions are to deal with their own ecologically damaging activities and polluting products - but, by "sometime in the future"? (not specifically now. "maybe? in twenty years!", etc)

And yet, those that have been paying attention over the last decade - have noticed an obvious pattern - these same (personality types of) politicians & industries have been saying this "blah blah blah" for decades. If that is not deception? what is? (rhetorical question)

They really are habitual liars. They don't value honesty - they value being rich & they make profits by selling fuels & or investing money in fuel corporations. It's that simple!

"The H Factor of Personality
Why Some People are Manipulative, Self-Entitled, Materialistic, and Exploitive—And Why It Matters for Everyone" wlupress.wlu.ca/Books/T/The-H-

Right here, right now - we (the majority) are still burning as many fossil fuels as ever. We are still filling up our vehicles with diesel and petrol ("gas" in the USA). The industries are still looking for, manufacturing, and investing in more fossil fuels. The sales of wood fuels are increasing as fossil fuels become more expensive (& fossil fuel industries are making record profits).

"The effects of human-caused global warming are happening now, are irreversible for people alive today, and will worsen as long as humans add greenhouse gases to the atmosphere" climate.nasa.gov/effects/

Even when renewable energy systems are installed on the electrical network - they are often in addition to the burning of fuels - not replacing them. That's china's general policy.

For example, the UK has one of the largest wood-burning power stations in Europe (DRAX - a big industry making lots of money from deforestation). And the same forms of deception can be seen on the drax.com/ website.

They are habitual liars - they know that woodfuel isn't, to quote the DRAX website "sustainable biomass" (i.e., burning wood).

They are simply doing the same greenwashing they did with fossil fuels - with woodfuel.

The science is clear - burning wood is extremely harmful to human health. "Use of wood stoves and risk of cancers of the upper aero-digestive tract: a case-control study Conclusion: “use of wood stoves may be linked to as many as 30% of all cancers occurring in the region”. doi.org/10.1093/ije/27.6.936

The science is clear - burning wood (biomass) is a leading cause of climate heating, deforestation, wildlife extinction, soil erosion, etc.

"It’s time to stop "pretending" [deception & denial] burning forest biomass is carbon neutral" doi.org/10.1111/gcbb.12716

The woodfuel & fossil fuel industries aren't stupid - they know that their products are extremely harmful. Criminals understand they're causing harm - but do it anyway (for money).

This is the truth about England's current government. Their actions speak louder than their words. And their decisions \ actions evidently show that they are the "leaders" that are causing, rather than preventing - climate heating and ecological degradation in general.

Maybe that's got something to do with how the conservative party donors and politicians make their money.

"The decision to approve a new £165m coalmine in Cumbria reveals an unpleasant truth about the government. It demonstrates, with brutal clarity, that No 10 has no credible green agenda and does not understand or care about the climatic peril our world is facing. theguardian.com/commentisfree/

The phrase "how to save the planet" is a form of ignorance & or narcissism.

The planet is massive - comparatively, humans are tiny objects that exist on a massive planet's surface.

How to ecologically sustain human societies (cooperative civilizations) - therefore the number of humans that depend on them.

In a democracy -

1. An electorate that supports & promotes governments that support, promote, and invest in ecologically sustainable activities (that's what it will take to sustain societies).

2. Governments that support, promote, and invest in ecologically sustainable activities (supports the electorate. The culture)

3. Evidence-based planning (i.e., not being dominated by corporations' business agendas)

3. Being and doing 1, 2, and 3 - honestly (i.e., zero greenwashing & "blah blah blah" virtue signaling)

An impressive view in the Lake District National park (10/12/22), Cumbria, UK. The valley below is called St. Johns in the vale.

However, there is nothing saintly about the valley.

The valley below is in a (generally) "sheep-wrecked" condition - ecologically degraded and drained farmland. The majority of standing trees in the area are conifer tree plantations.

All the farms in the valley burn woodfuel & or coal to heat their homes. Many people in the nearby villages burn woodfuel & coal to heat their homes. Many of their homes are poorly insulated - drafty old buildings that take a lot of energy to heat during the winter.

Approximately 30 km South West (To the right & over the distant mountains) is the town of . Whitehaven is where the UK's (The Party) is planning to open a coal mine.

Some people have said, to paraphrase "what will they do with this coal? because many steel manufacturers are converting to electrical methods!".

The government (in partnership with their industrial associates) will sell some of the coal to the local people of Cumbria - people who heat their houses using victorian age technologies. That's not because they're forward-looking people. And that's why they vote for the outdated forms of, fossil fuel promoting, "business as usual", ecocidal politics.

However, the truth (evidence), has the potential to liberate the local communities. To clear up their local air and have affordable electricity so as to heat their (modernized) homes (e.g., using heat pumps)

Behaviorally - a is a trait that is (become) more harmful than helpful, in contrast with an adaptation, which is more helpful than harmful.

For example, on average (population ), people have inherited an adaptation so that they'd find polluted water distasteful.

In contrast, on average, people have inherited a maladaptation so that they don't perceive polluted air as "distasteful" (smelling "bad").

In other words, the wood stove industry is lying . (they know the truth). Deception is the norm that the fuel industries et al. use to sell their harmful products. Because the truth would seriously reduce their profit margins. For example, nobody wants to develop dementia.
