As an ex-#twitter user observing The Discourse, I don't think the CW system works nearly as well as long-time users insist it does.
It would be more useful if it was multiple-choice with categories for severe warnings as this would make filtering out upsetting things easier, with freetext CWs reserved only for the absolute mildest warnings. Needing to choose between constant clicking or no filter at all is bad UX that twitter users are right to complain about.

we should be permuting. ideally different communities have different tellers/gatherers of their ways, ideally the different frontiers can find ways to represent what they are and what they are doing. these arent norms of this new network; there are norms of some of it's practitioners/users, often accidentally or not built/shaped by the influence of the developers. but it's coincidence, accident, barely design, just a take, and far more than where we are, can we not all agree to stress, heavily, it's important to site where you want to go, where you think might be interesting or valuable? now that we have freedom to explore?
