As played out and cliche as it is, one of my bucket list items feels like it is becoming more of an eventual survival goal as time goes on. Especially with how much it feels like society is circling the drain these days. I feel like I'm starting to understand some of the thought processes behind the off-grid/living out in the wilderness types. 😛

I've always been one who has enjoyed traveling and road trips. An extension of this has been the want to try out the whole vanlife thing at some point in my life. As a , with the increasing accessibility of internet access (between of Starlink and cellular connectivity in general) it has become much more palatable. My ultimate goal would be to dive in and do a full mobile setup. I have a ton of potential plans for such a setup in the back of my head that I'm constantly itching to try. Part of that is the work I've been putting into an IRL/mobile streaming setup lately. I think it'd be fun and kinda cool to built that all in the van/camper including external cameras in the mix.

I'm on my way to building my own AirGradient airgradient.com/open-airgradie DIY environmental monitoring system.

I'm pretty happy with what I got running in an afternoon.

Hooked up a SenseAir S8 sensor to the serial port on a Raspberry Pi and wrote a small python script to poll it. Then I set up Grafana and InfluxDB. And there we go.

Disaster in the homelab! the node hosting kube-api prometheus and grafana is down!
fortunately I'm not relying on it being up for anything.

This weekend I finally got around to testing the software stack for my DIY IOT learning project.
esp32 devkit was suggested to me from a workmate.
I have prometheus for homelab monitoring
enabling remote write means I can use this library and just barely tweak the example to add dht22 temperature sensor data.

AH HA I found my kube issue. I removed a node that had a persistient volume assigned on it's filesystem. So the kube api server was waiting for the node to show up and delete it. which wasn't going to happen. that node is in the retirement pile.

If you've got more than, like, three boards (or other SBCs that are running a compatible OS), I highly endorse using (or similar apps) to reduce the amount of time spent keeping them updated on a regular basis.

There are 9 such boards running in my , and of those, 8 can be updated via an Ansible playbook. The remaining one is running , which has a special update script, and I have yet to find the secret sauce for non-interactive updating via that script.

Apparently it's some extremely nondescript brand name for the answer to , effectively. I swear AWS would be just as easy to understand if they adopted the Rick Sanchez method for naming files. And there's no real reason to do this. I see someone mention they got some vendor certs in AWS and I'm like "oh, cool, so you memorized half of Amazon's brands".
