...for all of you home recording types, any reasonably cheap and practical ideas for basstraps/absorbant gobos/etc.? The studio is a prototypical concrete/block basement with exposed wooden rafter ceilings. I'm probably going with plywood panels and rock wool wrapped with burlap and Barry Hufker's 'trapcan' for some bass nodes. I wonder if large speaker cabinets soak up some low end. #homerecording

I think I may have found a solution for the song I was recording yesterday - the one that is very high in the chorus and caused some distortion because of it.

Sometimes a key change within a song is all you need! I think it will save the song and the recording!

Sound engineers, I have a question:

I'm recording the vocals for the next song but I have a problem. The verses are fine but the chorus is much higher, so if I record at the same gain, it's way too distorted.

Is it advisable to lower the gain just for the chorus? I always assumed the gain should be the same throughout the song.

Or should I move farther away from the mic in the chorus?

The thing is, even if I lower the gain a LOT, there's still some distortion in the chorus and I feel like I have to hold back.

What would your advice be? Thx!

If you want your album to sound good, forget all the deadlines. It’s no use to rush. Unplanned things will come up. Life will kick in. You may not get the sound right at once. Take your time to get it recorded properly. It’s worth it in the end.

Ah, the challenges of home recording! So, I recorded the vocals for my next single called Adventures but then my sound engineer said the recording sounded funny, like it was out of phase. 🥸 I have no idea what that even means! 😂 I also have no idea what could have caused this! 🙃 I guess I’ll just redo it and hope for the best!

#HomeRecording #mixing is usually my voice and a #guitar and a #bass, maybe putting a 100ms delay on one side of the #voice.
But now it's a singer and acoustic, I've added bass and lead, and it's muddy.
#Audacity doesn't make it super easy to preview compression and eq on individual tracks.
Having fun though.

So when I let the beans burn will trying to use the updated recording software that set latency compensation to zero and I had to drag the tracks by hand and the tool for that had changed…that was #ADHD #hyperfocus, I guess, but to me, it was I-gotta-fix-this.
- that a normal guy might have taken a break seems like a superpower to me, like when you all read each other's thoughts by looking at their faces.

5 days (at least 12 h/d) in this DIY "studio" with all my stuff & some high quality instruments friends lend me.

Result so far:
• Worked on 6 original songs
• 1 song is recorded in full
• came up with the whole arrangement for 2 songs
• recorded all the instrumentals, save for 2 guitar solos
• 5 songs still need vocals & a few details

Hopefully will finish the rest over the next couple weeks & then I'm off for mixing/mastering.😁🫣
