A couple of words on migration from one #SynologyNAS to another.
I prepared a backup in two different places (just in case) and was ready to wait a whole day to restore it, but #Synology #DSM broke all my expectations. After I moved my drives from an old DS223 to a new DS423+ and started it, it said: "Hey, looks like you are migrating from another NAS. Do you want to restore your system on a new NAS with a single button click?".
So far, DS423+ performance is super satisfactory. Especially #Plex. Sure, after the RAM upgrade from 2 to 6 GB.

It's upgrade time!

I'm upgrading my #SynologyNAS. I found out that I want to stick with #Synology and there are models with #Plex hardware encoding support up to 4K. Also, more powerful models support object recognition in #SynologyPhotos. Ah, and for futureproofing it should have 4 drive bays.
So DS223 => DS423+

After some time with #Debian, I want #Ubuntu back.
Debian is not bad. Ubuntu is just more... friendly.

Recently I've been researching how various #HomeServer projects work
- https://umbrel.com
It has been interesting to see how the various projects package apps for install and how they interface with the underlying OS. At some point I'll try to collect some notes about the different implementations
I'm sure there are probably many other similar projects I'm not aware of yet. 🤔
I suppose I should probably replace the boot drive in my home #server one of these days.
But... intertia.
Almost 9 years of nearly constant use for a basic consumer-grade #SSD is pretty good, even if the use case is a very low-traffic, low-use #homeserver.
On the other hand, my separate #Plex server died a few months ago, and rather than rebuild that I just added Plex to this box too, so it's doing a little more work than it used to, so... yeah, I should probably do something about that.

So, one of my home servers crashed... again. The new power supply didn't help. Also, #kdump didn't dump anything, so it is useless in my case. I'm still hoping that the issue is not in the CPU or motherboard. I still have something to try among the most common server hang reasons.
Next is power management. Need to try to disable any power management settings in #BIOS. Wish me luck.

So apparently #Webmin is the only dashboard you need for your #homelab. It has every stat you want in place + it is a server administration through the web interface.
I tried a lot of things recently, from #dashdot to #Cockpit, but #Webmin fits me the most.
Yes, it doesn't have a fancy icons grid with links to your local resources, but hey! There is a Favorites functionality built-in in your browser!

My #intelnuc server crashes once a week... The investigation is ongoing.
Set up kernel crash dump to have logs next time it happens.
For now, my main suspect is the system m.2 disk, because it can't finish long self-tests. Still smart return no errors.
Stay tuned.

So apparently, I don't have 250 GB of photos and videos to host on my new and shiny #Nextcloud. My photo archive will take up at least twice less of disk space.
I have around 40 000 files in the downloaded photo archive, while #GooglePhotos reports around 20 000. The thing is if your photo was added to an album, you'll get a duplicate of it in an album folder. If your photo was added to 3 albums, you'll get 4 copies of it in separate folders. Add one more copy for each person detected on a photo.
Thanks to the incredibly useful #MediaDC app I can catch yem all.
