Why did the go after Julian ? What did he do?

As Chris writes on in a sermon he gave on August 20 in Oslo entitied “The Crucifixion of Julian Assange”: they came after him because he told the truth - again and again!

[Full disclosure: I’m an atheist but I am also a great admirer of Hedges’ writings & his passionate opposition to the criminal, warmongering ruling classes!]

“They came after Julian because he exposed the more than 15,000 unreported deaths of civilians;

because he exposed the torture and abuse of some 800 men and boys, aged between 14 and 89, at ;

because he exposed that Hillary in 2009 ordered U.S. diplomats to spy on U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and other U.N. representatives from China, France, Russia, and the U.K., spying that included obtaining DNA, iris scans, fingerprints, and personal passwords (part of the long pattern of illegal surveillance that included the eavesdropping on U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan in the weeks before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003);

because he exposed that Barack , Hillary Clinton and the backed the June 2009 military coup in that overthrew the democratically elected president Manuel Zelaya, replacing him with a murderous and corrupt military regime;

because he exposed that George W. , Barack Obama and General David prosecuted a war in Iraq that under post-Nuremberg laws is defined as a criminal war of aggression, a war crime;

that they authorized hundreds of targeted assassinations, including those of U.S. citizens in , and that they secretly launched missile, bomb, and drone attacks on Yemen, killing scores of civilians;

because Julian exposed the contents of the speeches Hillary Clinton gave to Goldman Sachs for which she was paid $675,000, a sum so large it can only be considered a bribe, and that she privately assured corporate leaders she would do their bidding while promising the public financial regulation and reform;

because he exposed how the hacking tools used by the CIA and the National Security Agency [] permit the wholesale government surveillance of our televisions, computers, smart phones and anti-virus software, allowing the government to record and store our conversations, images and private text messages, even from encrypted apps.

Julian exposed the truth. He exposed it over and over and over until there was no question of the endemic illegality, corruption and mendacity that defines the global ruling class And for these truths they came after Julian, as they have come after all who dared rip back the veil on power.”

Indigenous tongues spoken in Honduras include Ch’orti’, Tol, Pech/Paya, Miskito language, and Garifuna language. The Lencan languages lost all of their native speakers in Honduras after the popularity of the Spanish language. But lately, ethnic communities are making attempts to revive these languages.

Ancient masons had a smart way to make stronger

Up close, the Mayas' timeless recipe from looks similar to mother-of-pearl.

By Rahul Rao, Apr 19, 2023

[Recent discoveries] "seemed to confirm past archaeological and written records suggesting that ancient Maya masons mixed plant matter into their plaster. The other standard ingredients (lime and water) wouldn’t account for complex carbon chains.

"To follow this lead, the authors decided to make the historic plaster themselves. They consulted living and Maya descendants near . The locals referred them to the and that grow in the surrounding —specifically, the sap that came from the trees’ bark.

"The authors tested the sap’s reaction when mixed into the plaster. Not only did it toughen the material, it also made the plaster insoluble in water, which partly explains how Copán survived the local climate so well.

"The microscopic structure of the plant-enhanced plaster is similar to nacre or mother-of-pearl: the iridescent substance that some molluscs create to coat their shells. We don’t fully understand how make nacre, but we know that it consists of crystal plates sandwiching elastic proteins. The combination toughens the sea creatures’ exteriors and reinforces them against weathering from waves.

"A close study of the ancient plaster samples and the modern analog revealed that they also had layers of rocky calcite plates and organic sappy material, giving the materials the same kind of resilience as nacre. 'They were able to reproduce what living organisms do,' says Rodríguez Navarro."

At least two dozen defenders have been murdered, disappeared and jailed across the region so far this year"
