For many years, White2Tea refused to use the term "gushu" to describe any of their teas, especially puerh. In typical White2Tea fashion when they finally released teas they described with the word "gushu", they still weren't puerh, but a wild Yunnan tea processed as white and red tea. "ye sheng gushu hong cha" is the red/black version. With a bitterness level on par with grapefruit or amaro, a unique scent reminiscent of dried chiles, and a somewhat savory/medicinal flavor, it's definitely not a "crowd pleaser". However, those of us that do like it, really like it.

2016 Dragon Ball Black Tea from Xizihao Daughter Tea. A bud heavy Yunnan style black tea that drinks more like a puerh with some wet storage character. I leave it as an exercise for yourself to work out whether that is appealing (but I like it).

Red Jade from Volition Tea Co, received via tea trade. Fujian style black tea grown in Guangdong. Organically produced, better than everyday quality black tea, but, looking at their website, I would say the price is a bit higher than I would typically pay.

Getting a new clean ruyau gaiwan, it's always interesting to see which teas do the best at "dyeing" the cracks. I will say Imperial Pure Bud Yunnan Black Tea of Simao from Yunnan Sourcing is one that seems to have pretty heavy duty coloring power.

Seems like red teas from India are "comfort teas" for a lot of people. Not sure what this says about me, but I have found various red teas from Taiwan to be the ones I gravitate towards when feeling the need for tea and comfort. Dalun Shan Red High Mountain Oolong via Mud and Leaves is a particularly nice example.

Trying last MyTeaPal Club tea from India before returning to my usual Chinese tea hijinks. Doke Tea Black Fusion (2022, autumn) is a nice, clean, daily drinker black. Lower astringency than I expected from previous Indian Black tea experience and a more savory than fruity character, sort of Dian Hong, junior. Not much in terms of aromatics, but some light lingering bitterness.

My guess for Ho Yum Tea mystery tea No 4 was right on, bud-only Fujian Jin Jun Mei style red tea. There are two main classic styles of Fujian Red tea, qimen and lapsang souchon (or Zhengshan xiaozhong). "Real" Jin Jun Mei is an outgrowth of the Lapsang style and comes from Tongmu village. If it is authentic Tongmu Jin Jun Mei, it can be very expensive. This tea is made to the Jin Jun Mei production standards, but is from a few km away from the Tongmu area, in Xia Mei town.

"High Mountain Red Ai Lao Mountain Black Tea". The name is a little word salad-ey, but this is another delicious and well priced tea from Yunnan Sourcing. Also, another atypical Yunnan red, closer to Taiwan or Fujian reds in character than typical Dian Hong style red.

The final of the three 2018 Drunk on Red tea cakes. This one is Yunnan black tea blended with Osmanthus flowers. The flavor of Osmanthus flowers reminds me of disappointing herbal iced tea in hippy restaurants. (It's kinda fruity/peachy/apricot/herbal.) On the plus side, the Osmanthus flavor has mellowed somewhat with time and merged with the tea more thoroughly.
