We had more in facilities in 2022 than we had in 2020 and 2021 combined, and more deaths and more hospitalizations than the first two years of the pandemic combined.

This data for the largest metro area in Eastern WA makes me feel like the only sober person at a party right now. Also: stats for WA are as high as they’ve been for much of the past year.

Years ago, when I felt this way I’d write an essay on my blog about it, or do a Tweet thread that would get seen thousands of times. But the blog is essentially dead and I refuse to provide content to Twitter.

Let me know if you’d read my essay. Won’t bother otherwise.

What is delirium?

Up to one-third of older people admitted to hospital are diagnosed with delirium.

This increases the risk of unnecessary functional decline, a longer hospital stay, falls, needing to be admitted to a residential aged care facility, and death.

While delirium is potentially preventable, it’s poorly recognised, and cases are often missed.
