#hubzilla

* thème nuit
* un nouveau site https://hubzilla.org qui est tout simplement trés trés bien
* Amélioration de l'affichage de l'indicateur de progression de page
- Amélioration de la recherche de contact (Il faudra que je teste cela )
- etc...
If I'd spent the time I invested in #Hubzilla writing a tool to move #Mastodon content, I'd have that tool now and so would everyone else. Trying not to dwell on that because it's really depressing... and knowing we all have to wait for a bunch of people to go through a bunch of pain before there's enough will to do something about it.
If anyone has any materials for how you can talk to Mastodon (or #ActivityPub) using straight #Java, not the Kotlin library, would be good to see.
#java #ActivityPub #Mastodon #Hubzilla
Trying to decide whether to self-host #Mastodon or just accept that all my content will be lost if I ever need to move servers (unless I somehow get time to write a tool that moves it). One of these options is free, which appeals. I think I'm done with #Hubzilla. I've seen enough. As technically brilliant as its identity portability is, it's just not practical or reliable and decisions being made are strange, which makes it an unwise place for me to invest my time or energy. #Fediverse

What I've seen using #Hubzilla for several weeks:
It's an excellent platform with identity portability that could revolutionise social media, related cloud services and the #Fediverse.
It is also a platform you can only use if you're comfortable navigating unnecessary interface hurdles to do basic tasks, and don't care whether messages arrive when or where they should, or ever at all.
If you want to try it on an instance with an administrator who is an absolute prize jerk, I can recommend 👍

If you would like to be able to receive mentions on #Hubzilla from people who are not contacts (currently impossible) please 👍 this #GitLab issue: https://framagit.org/hubzilla/core/-/issues/1732
@jupiter_rowland (My only guess can be that the recent uptick in use of the fediverse has driven more new people to #Hubzilla... that in the past a lot of people were discouraged by its lack of usability, but that now there is more reason for them to persist with it. And as a result of that, higher user volumes and more people asking question is driving out issues and bugs with scale and functionality that were just never raised before.)
@jupiter_rowland I'm sorry if it seems I'm taking a hard position but I'm really frustrated right now. I've spent so much time trying to learn how #Hubzilla works and navigate all its quirks, which are many, because at its core I can see it does something remarkable nothing else has achieved and that could be incredibly valuable to many people. I want to see it succeed. But this mentions issue is something I can't work around. For most people I know, it will make it unviable.
@jupiter_rowland You can't do "b", though, unless you're already connected to everyone else. And this restriction is invisible to all concerned, and at odds with how mentions work on all other platforms. You think you've responded. None of them see it.
The way it works right now is inconsistent even within #Hubzilla itself. If mentions aren't supposed to be used this way how come they work with contacts? What Mario said made some sense to me. What you're saying here doesn't
@jupiter_rowland Perhaps Twitter has changed expectations. What you've written might explain how we arrived where we are if we were discussing it 6-7 years ago. It doesn't justify being where we are today. I think if you told most #Hubzilla users how the system is behaving right now they'd be shocked. No other messaging system behaves like this, giving a sender no indication their message didn't arrive while not showing it to the recipient without that recipient's awareness.
@z428 Feeling this right now. #Hubzilla's nomadic identity has been working pretty well for me, but it's not handling outages quite right at the moment, and I've since found a problem that is so major it makes the platform unusable for most of the people I know on social media. And then this evening I found out the #PeerTube instance I've been using is shutting down, and.... the #fediverse is too exhausting right now. I'd almost rather give up social media altogether than have this in my life.
#Fediverse #Peertube #Hubzilla
There's also no way to contact the admin of my currently malfunctioning #Hubzilla instance because his only contact address is on the Hubzilla instance, and Hubzilla blocks mentions from people you don't already know... since it's not interacting with ActivityPub right now following him won't even reach him...
Self-hosting is starting to look like the only reliable option for much of the #Fediverse but that doesn't feel like a good thing. Most won't share their instances if it goes that way.
